Agenda Item 4 BOROUGH OF POOLE GREEN INITIATIVE GRANT PANEL 20th November 2012 Purpose of the report To update the panel member of the progress made on the agreed actions to encourage home composting. 1. SUBSIDISED COMPOSTING BINS 1.1 The Compost bins have been offered at a subsidised rate to residents since April 2012. This will bring the cost of a 220 litre composting bin from £16.00 to £6.00 for residents. 1.2 This has resulted in 219 of the 330 litre compost bins and 125 of the 220 litre compost bins being bought by residents, up to the end of September, at a cost of £2078.37. 2. COMMUNITY COMPOSTING SITES 2.1 A community compost bin has been erected in Turlin Moor Community garden at a cost of £87. 2.2 This compost bin has been used by resident through promotion events for the garden and is currently increasing with the local use. 3. COMPOSTING SCHOOL/CONFERENCES 3.1 The first compost school was delivered on the 10th November. 23 people attended the event. 3.2 The aim of the events will be to bring greater understanding and confidence to interested Poole residents who currently do not compost or finding composting at home challenging. It is intended to be a hands-on, practical and entertaining day for residents. 3.3 There were 19 completed evaluation forms collected in. Evaluation of the event were very high.
