CAA Revision Highlights The restructured Associate in Arts and Associate in Science programs of study will comprise 60 semester hours of transferable credit. The AA and AS programs of study will be restructured to include two components: o Universal General Education Transfer Component comprises a minimum of 30 hours of credit. A North Carolina community college student who satisfactorily completes, with a grade of “C” or better, courses identified in this component will receive credit applied toward the university’s lower-division general education course requirements o Additional general education, pre-major, and elective courses that comprise a minimum of 30 hours of credit and prepare students for successful transfer into selected majors at UNC institutions. A North Carolina community college student who satisfactorily completes a transfer course in designated as General Education, pre-major or elective will receive transfer credit for the course. Students who complete the AA/AS with a grade of “C” or better in all transfer classes will be guaranteed admission to a one of the of the 16 UNC institutions and will have fulfilled the UNC institution’s lowerdivision general education requirements. Each UNC institution will develop, publish, and maintain selected four-year degree plans identifying community college courses that provide pathways leading to associate degree completion, admission into the major, and baccalaureate completion. Students who complete the published degree plan tracks and who are accepted for admission are eligible to continue into the major at the senior institution.
