BIO 103
Human Anatomy and Physiology I covers the structure and function of the human body.
Included is an orientation of the human body, basic principles of chemistry, a study of cells and
tissues, metabolism, joints, the integumentary, skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems and the
senses. Dissection, histological studies and physiology are featured in the laboratory experience.
A 120 minute laboratory is required.
1. At the end of A and P I, Bio 201, a student will be able to identify components, functions, and
other well-known diseases of the tissues, integumentary system, bone tissue, the skeleton, the
muscular system, the nervous system and the special senses.
2: The student will also be able to recognize, describe and define commonly used medical and
health care related anatomical terms to these systems.
3: The student will also be able to explain and describe the various physiological processes
covered in the above systems.

Make-up exams can ONLY be given when a student presents a verifiable, documented excuse
for an absence. If a student misses a lecture exam in this class, then they will be allowed to
make up the exam during a predetermined time that is acceptable to the instructor. Make-up
exams will be different from but have a similar set-up to regular class tests. Homework and
missed quizzes cannot be made up in this class. If an exam or assignment is not made-up, then
the student will receive a grade of zero for that test or assignment.
The majority of your grade will be based on lecture and lab exams. There will be announced
quizzes and one homework assignment used in determining your final grade.

Students are expected to be honorable in all college assignments. Suspected cases of academic
misconduct are reported to the Dean of Academic or Technical Services.
SSCC Attendance Policy: Students are expected to attend all classes for which they are
registered, to be prompt, and to remain in class/lab for the entire time. Attendance will be
recorded at every class/lab meeting. On the final grade report, instructors are required to
identify the last day of attendance for all students who receive a grade of “F” or “U.” Students
who are unable to attend class regularly, regardless of the reason or circumstance, should
withdraw from the class. Withdrawal from class can affect eligibility for federal financial aid.
If a student is unable to attend at least 80 percent of class meetings, regardless of the reason or
circumstance, it is recommended that the student withdraw from that class; excessive absences
interfere with the student’s ability to successfully complete the course.
The college catalog and website detail standard college polices for all teaching and learning
activities. This class syllabus is intended to give further detail about the policies and
expectations in this class. Students are expected to be aware of and abide by College policies in
every class.
All students who are or have been registered for classes at Shelton State Community College

Grades will be based on the number of points that you accumulate during the
semester. The assignments/exams for the class are as follows:
1) 4 Lecture exams-these will count 100 points each.
2) 2 Lab exams-these will count 100 points each.
3) 10 Lecture quizzes-your eight best quizzes will count 10 points each.
4) 1 Homework assignment will count 20 points.

LECTURE QUIZZES
There will be 10 announced lecture quizzes in this class. The dates for the quizzes are listed in the course outline
section of this syllabus. Each quiz will count 10 points and will consist of 10 multiple choice questions on the
materials covered in lecture. Your eight (8) best quiz grades will count towards your final grade determination.
Quizzes will be given at the beginning of the class period. MISSED QUIZZES CANNOT BE MADE UP!!!!

APRIL 7, 2016 IS THE LAST DAY TO WITHDRAW FROM A CLASS!
Cell phones should be on vibrate and out of sight during class and lab
periods. Phones will be completely out of sight on exam days. Texting
is forbidden during class time. If you are caught texting, you will be
asked to leave on the first offense. On the second offense, you will be
turned in to the Dean for academic misconduct!! This policy will be
strictly enforced and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS! Phones must be
out of sight on exam days-this will also constitute academic
misconduct.
