JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE OF POST: Head of Programme of Area Foundation English & Maths REPORTING TO: Vice Principal Curriculum RESPONSIBLE FOR: English and Maths Level 1 and 2 teaching staff (including course leaders) and Study Plus coordinator SALARY: Management Scale C - £44,204 – £46,795 inclusive of London weighting HOURS: Full-time SCOPE OF THE POST: The delivery of English and Maths Level 1 & 2 courses plus cross college role to ensure Literacy and Numeracy are embedded within curriculum delivery. To ensure support for students is deployed and managed effectively in line with student needs and College strategic aims. DUTIES General Responsibilities 1. To play a full and enthusiastic part in the general life of the College. 2. To support and work co-operatively with the Head of Faculty, SLT and other College management team members in driving the quality improvement plan within the Programme Area and across the College. 3. To be flexible and responsive in all aspects of the post. 4. To actively line manage the curriculum staff and support staff in line with the role 5. To undertake agreed teaching and course leadership (where appropriate) in line with College policy. 6. To support the ethos of the College, its marketing, publicity and recruitment activities. 7. To implement the College's policies on Equal Opportunities, Health and Safety, Data Protection and Safeguarding. Cross College 1. To undertake Cross College and /or Cross Faculty responsibilities as directed by Head of Faculty and SLT 2. To provide effective leadership and line manage teams responsible for all aspects of learning and learning support. 3. To assist in the delivery of the quality improvement programme across the faculty that results in improved outcomes. 4. To undertake the role of Duty Principal as required within the College 5. To work with other curriculum managers to improve student attendance, retention and success. Curriculum 1. To lead the curriculum team in the development of the curriculum as required 2. To work with the Vice Principal in the production of the curriculum plan. 3. To work with the delivery teams in the implementation of the Quality Improvement Plan. 4. To lead and direct quality improvement and enhancement processes within the curriculum area. Leadership and Management - Staff 1. To have line management responsibilities, teaching, support and technical staff including staff appraisals, probationary reviews, setting and monitoring of targets. 2. To provide leadership of the curriculum team and student learning support, to monitor the work of the teams, and contribute to their training and development. 3. To lead regular documented meetings as required, and to ensure that subject teams do likewise. 4. To manage and monitor staff within the curriculum area to ensure that learners meet their targets. 5. To support the Heads of Faculty in the implementation of Learner Rewards and Sanctions procedures, helping to promote and celebrate learner achievement. 6. To make appropriate arrangements for the cover of classes and to participate in cover arrangements in line with College policy. Quality 1. To ensure that agreed targets are monitored and achieved in respect of retention, attainment, success and other quality indicators for quality assurance and improvement are undertaken. 2. To implement and monitor learner support procedures and effective learner tracking within the team including reports and attendance monitoring. 3. To take responsibility for course changes and internal progression, to maximise learner retention and achievement. 4. To support curriculum teams in the preparation of curriculum reviews and in the development of the area SAR and Quality Improvement Plan. 5. Ensure that examination entries and withdrawals are undertaken with reference to College policies and procedure. 6. To act as lead/internal verifier when appropriate and liaise effectively with all external verifiers when necessary. 7. To ensure the learner voice is effectively promoted within the faculty and implement the outcomes to make quality improvements. 8. To ensure the development and implementation of quality policies, procedures and processes across the faculty. Budgets and Resources 1. Effective management of allocated budget and resources. 2. Deployment of physical and human resource in consultation with the College managers. Learner Journey 1. To work with SLT and managers to ensure the smooth transition of learners into College, including induction. 2. To ensure that the team understands and delivers what is required. 3. To work with learner support services, such as the Study Plus Centre and Learner Support, to ensure effective referral of learners, to discharge the college’s child protection obligations and to ensure learners receive appropriate and effective guidance and support for learning. 4. To organise and implement the formal Learner Progress Reviews in accordance with College systems. 5. To manage internal progression enrolment, to include a curriculum review for all learners progressing from within the college. 6. To lead on the academic progress, discipline, absence and behaviour management of learners within the College, promoting high expectations and standards. As a Teacher To manage the teaching and learning processes for all assigned groups and courses. Key tasks include: 1. Keeping current with subject and course developments and external requirements such as exam boards and awarding bodies. 2. Preparing schemes of work and learning programmes. 3. Undertaking appropriate assessment activities to monitor the progress and attainment of learners. 4. Recording and reporting learner progress and attainment in line with College policies and practices. 5. Promoting and delivering a range of teaching and learning strategies to enhance learner achievement. 6. Acting as a course/subject leader within the department where appropriate. 7. Contributing to the review and evaluation procedures in line with the College's Quality Assurance policy. 8. Teaching across a range of subjects as appropriate.
