If you are doing your spring cleaning, please keep us in
mind! We can do any tune-up or minor fixing that they may
need. We’ll be collecting them in May. More info to come!
On Friday, May 23rd, there will be a road closure on the
600 block of Galapago St! We are hopeful that it will not
disrupt drop-off & pick-up, but it might… if you can use the
Fox St side on that day, it will help with congestion.

GALS Garden Party!
Join us on May 17th for the GALS
Garden Party! 9:30-11am will be
work time, and 11am-1pm will be
planting, fun, and free food from
Chipotle (*thanks, Chipotle!) We
hope you can join us! Please bring
gardening tools, a towel, and a
water bottle.

station, also!

Schedule (middle school)
This topic is a critically important one and one that parents
and students have been requesting. Specific topics
covered will be: -potential risks of using any social media,
chat apps or photo-sharing apps; statistics and real
examples of what can go wrong on these sites and
apps; being preyed on by sexual predators; over-sharing
and causing an embarrassing situation for yourselves
and cyber-bullying. Hope to see many of you there!
After-School Activities Ending!
The last day for after-school enrichment is May 23rd!
Please make plans for your students to be picked up at
3:50pm after that date. Tutoring and study hall will
continue until the end of the year, but should only be used
for tutoring and study hall! ;)

KIPP Austin Collegiate, the high school that Carrie
Donovan founded and led (in Austin, TX) has been named
one of US News & World Report’s Top 100 Schools in the

Congratulations to Cece Cole, who won 3rd Place in the
world-wide “Writing for Peace” for her story “Face Me”!
“Face Me” is a portrait of a very young woman living under
the Taliban regime who feels unseen, faceless, powerless,
because of she was born female. It is a uncompromising,
harrowing depiction of the kind of rage that being treated like
offensive “lesser” property engenders, a glimpse at societal
abuse, and worse, through the eyes of one hidden girl who has
not given up a dream of power, whatever it takes. A painful
and deeply moving piece. You can find it attached to this
week’s Wednesday Memo.
CONGRATULATIONS to GALS 7th grader, Adara
Walker! She has been involved in a not for profit, horse
back riding program called Interscholastic Equestrian
Association. Adara has competed this whole season and
championed her division in Colorado and will compete in
the IEA National Hunt Seat Championship in Springfield
MA on May 16 and 17!
Please congratulate her on her accomplishments and
wish her well at Nationals!

DC Trip News
Come support the 2015 8th grade DC Trip at our
annual Applebee's Pancake Breakfast. Help raise money for
the trip and enjoy delicious pancakes at the same time. Event
details:
When: Saturday, May 17th. Drop in anytime from 8am10am.
Where: Glendale Applebee's, 410 S Colorado Blvd
Ticket Details: $10 ticket gets you all you can eat pancakes,
bacon/sausage, OJ and coffee/tea. You are welcome to buy
tickets in advance at GALS or at the door on the day of the
event.

Parents' Council
There is a REALLY IMPORTANT Parent Council Meeting
on Tuesday, May 20, from 4 to 5pm. This is to figure out
leadership roles for next year. PLEASE try to make this one
hour meeting. If you do not attend the meeting you may be
elected to an officer position. Don't take chances with your
future, take control.
