Orientation Leader Application 2015 Position Description Orientation Leaders will provide new students and families a high-quality experience to welcome them to the Fort Lewis community. This experience includes campus tours, strategies for a successful transition, school spirit, academic success, and highlighting co-curricular opportunities. Orientation Leaders must have good verbal communication skills, a positive attitude, ability to work well under pressure, initiative, be flexible, a respect for differences, a sense of professionalism, and a commitment to New Student Orientation. This year there will be two different roles for Orientation Leaders: Group Leader and Connection Leader. Each Orientation Leader will be assigned to one of the roles depending on their individual strengths and interest. Group Leader responsibilities – lead a group of new students through a structured program and facilitate discussions on FLC policies, resources, services, and success tips. Connection Leader responsibilities – help to run social events during Orientation, aid in logistics, and build relationships with new students in a non-structured environment. All Orientation Leaders will work collaboratively as a team to facilitate New Student Orientation and will report to the Senior Leadership Team. Important Dates: Applications Due: February 4, 2015 Interviews: February 17 & 18 February 24 & 25 March 4 & 5 1st Staff Meeting: April 13, 2015 at 6pm Training: August 24-26, 2015 New Student Orientation: August 27-29, 2015 Requirements Must be registered full time for the Fall 2015 semester by the time Orientation Leader training begins. By the end of the Spring 2015 semester, applicants must have completed 12 credit hours at Fort Lewis College. Must have a minimum 2.50 cumulative GPA and earned a minimum 2.0 semester GPA for Spring 2015. Must attend 1st Staff Training on April 13, 2015 and training in August 2015. Compensation Approximately $400 to $450 – First year Orientation Leaders will earn $9.50 per hour which may include some overtime. Second year leaders may earn more per hour depending on experience and skills. Meals during staff training and Fall 2015 Orientation sessions. FLC shirts to wear during Orientation sessions.
