2. Use the information you found on South America Project
Worksheet and additional resources if you need to (but be sure to
cite all new sources!).
3. Items that need to be in your scrapbook:
□ Title slide: Your full name, name of country, and an image (such as the
required map).
□ 2 photographs with narration: These photos could be a tour you took, an
animal you liked, or scenery from the Latin America country you chose.
□ Famous person: On your VoiceThread, explain who the famous person is
and why is he/she famous.
□ Historical event from your country:
What the historical event is? When
did it happen? Why it is important, and what effect did it have on the country?
□ Facts about the Latin American country: relative location, population (size
and ethnic origins), languages spoken, currency, type of government, major
economies/resources, brief history, natural features, cultural elements (such

Survival Guide
You are a survival expert with your own TV show on Discovery Channel
or NatGeo. Your task is to create a brochure with information about how to
survive in one of the three regions of Latin America we have been studying:
the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America, or South America. Of course,
within any given country, you may have to decide what climate region your
brochure will cover, as all three of these regions have a variety of climates. Imagine you are
writing to someone who will parachute out of an airplane with limited supplies. You may use

brochure or you may create it by hand.
 Create a cover with a title, illustration, and your full name.
 Have at least three panels including the cover in your brochure. Title each section.
 Write a complete and accurate description of the region including…

 Include a list of the necessary clothing appropriate for the climate.
 Include a helpful list of findable, edible foods available in the region and tips to locating
potable (drinkable) water.
 Include a list of other items needed to survive. Think about what the dangers could be,
weather? animals? travel?. What would the person want to either have on him/her
before jumping out of the plane or what would be essential to find once on the ground.
 Include a map of your country. The map needs to include the following: the capital city
(with an identifiable symbol), major cities, major bodies of water, and major land forms.
 Name and describe the major land features.
 Identify the size of the land area.
 Draw or use cited, appropriate illustrations, with captions, for each of the sections.


Country flag drawn – neat, straight lines, and in correct colors or cut and paste an

HISTORY
Was there an empire (Aztec, Inca, or Maya) that ruled this region?
What European country colonized it? And when?
When and how did it win independence? Or is it still a territory or possession?
CULTURE
What is the size of the population?
Who are the indigenous peoples?
Who are the other ancestors of the population? (ex. slaves from Africa, colonizers from
Spain) Or, what are the major ethnic groups?
What are the official languages and other dominate languages spoken?
GEOGRAPHY
Include a map image or draw the country’s outline. The map need to include the
following: the capital city (with an identifiable symbol), major cities, major bodies of
water, and major land forms.
Name and describe the major land features.
Identify the size of the land area.
ECONOMY
Name the monetary currency. (Ex. The currency in the United States is the dollar.
Coins are called cents.) State what the current exchange rate is with the dollar.
