Dixie Public School Council Meeting
Thursday, April 9th, 2015, MINUTES
PRESENT:
Parent Members: Mashkoor Sherwani (Chair), Elizabeth Bidinoff (Fundraising Chair), Goody
Bhagwager (Council), Tammy Bennett, Jo Tutty, Jocelyn Watkins
Staff Members: Meghan Echlin (Principal), Suzanne Liou-Robinson (Teacher), Annette
Mautner (Teacher), Sean Khursigara (Teacher)
WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS: Mr. Sherwani welcomed all present
REVIEW of MINUTES: Minutes from February 19th, 2015. Motion to accept by Mrs. Tutty.
Seconded by Mrs. Bhagwager. Minutes approved as written.

25 students going to Raptors game for a ‘Meet and Greet’ with Demar
GTA wide contest – Dixie P.S. won!
Mr. Peart worked VERY hard and is very proud of our kids

Chair’s Update:
New Health Curriculum






rally at Queen’s Park to protest new curriculum on April 14th
will be implemented in September 2015
Mrs. Echlin handed out copies of new curriculum
staff will be trained on implementation
Opt-Out Policy – student can be exempt from certain topics for religious or personal
reasons and will be provided with an alternate assignment
Human Rights Issues will be taught – NO OPT OUT OPTION
Traffic Safety Committee



Mr. Sherwani joined committee
able to take concerns
Mrs. Echlin concerned about tickets in parking lot for certain infractions

Parent Reaching Out Program




we have $500 to spend
will be used for telephone system as outreach to inform parents about school events
start-up cost $400
voted and ALL were in favour of the Telephone System

perhaps an outdoor Movie Night in June or September
