FUN RUN 2015
Big World Recess
Parents,
We’re so excited to kick off the American Academy Fun Run on Wednesday, Sept. 23rd!
We have partnered with Boosterthon to assist us in creating a fun and healthy day for our students.
The two primary goals of the American Academy Fun Run are to teach our students about how
to engage in activities with character during Big World Recess * and to raise funds for American
Academy (see specifics below) . We need your assistance in connecting your child to sponsors and
helping make this event a successful fundraiser for American Academy.
*Big World Recess is a Boosterthon Program that demonstrates through character based themes,
videos and activities the importance of leadership, team building and positive attitudes in any school
activity.
PRIZE PROGRAM CHANGE
This year we are doing something different for individual prizes. In the past, we have done a “prize
day” a week or 2 after the Fun Run. This year we are doing something exciting to get our students
fully engaged the week leading up to Fun Run. They will get prizes every day based on their level of
pledges and donations* up to that day.
*A pledge is when someone “pledges” to pay a certain amount per lap. These pledges will then be collected by
the students after Fun Run on October 2nd. A donation is a flat amount that someone pays no matter how
many laps are run. This is paid at the time the donation is made.
Note: Middle School will only be taking donations, not pledges per lap.
For instance, if Sally has hit $200 (in pledges and/or donations) by Tuesday, she will get the prizes for
that level Tuesday afternoon. If she then reaches $300 by Wednesday, she will get the prizes for that
level on Wednesday.
It has been shown that this prize structure keeps the students (and parents) engaged in the Fun Run
for more than just the event itself. It also allows for some friendly competition within their classes –
which is great for fundraising!
With this change, we need the students to be on top of their personalized website with pledges and
donations 9/23-10/2. We are asking your help in this venture. Detailed information will be coming out
regarding registration & website set up on 9/23.
There will still be class prizes. Elementary – 1) most laps 2) participation 3) top $ raised. Middle
School – 1) participation 2) top $ raised. These prizes will be announced at school on Fri, Oct 23.
Donations made after Oct 2 will count towards class prizes, but not individual prizes.
WHERE IS THE MONEY GOING?
The money from this year’s Fun Run will support the following programs & items:
 Athletics
 Gym Sound System
 Robotics & Aeronautic Equipment & Supplies
 Core Knowledge Supplies
IMPORTANT DATES TO REMEMBER
Wednesday, Sept 23rd: Fun Run Kick Off Pep Rally (parents are invited to join)
Middle School: 12:30 – 1:15 pm
Elementary School: 2:30 - 3:15 pm
Wednesday, Sept 23rd: Register Students Online
Thursday, Sept 24th- Friday, Oct 2nd:
Kids get pledges and donations via their Boosterthon American Academy Fun Run website
Daily Prize Distribution
Thursday, Oct 1st: Midnight – All Pledges must be in (have until Oct 20th to collect)
Friday, Oct 2nd: FUN RUN!!!! (parents are invited to join)
