TITLE OF THE PROJECT : “ Physico –Chemical Characterization Of Underground Water Used In Dhule City And Some Of The Villages In Dhule Taluka Dist. Dhule (Maharashtra)” EXECUTIVE SUMMARY OF MINOR RESEARCH PROJECT Public open wells from ten villages and ten areas of Dhule city were selected for groundwater analyses. The villages are- Fagane, Gondur, Khede Kusumba, Morane Pr.Laling, Nagaon, Nimdale, and Nawal Nagar Nyahlod Vadjai. They were labeled as V1 to V10. The city areas are- Annasaheb Patil Nagar, Kumar NagarBabalpuri, Deopur Charch, Jamnagiri, Bhilati, MoglaiMSEB, MohadiSuburb, Mahajan High school, NateshwarSociety, Patole80 Ft. road, SitaramMalichawl. They were labeled as C1 to C10 The water samples from these twenty sampling stations were collected after every three months periodically for eight rotations in two years. The physico chemical parameters cheeked are - PH, electronic conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, optical density, dissolved oxygen, total hardness, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, sodium, potassium and chloride. The values of all the parameters were calculated by using standard methods of titrimetry and instrumental methods. The results were tabulated and used to find out water quality index of all water samples. Variation of each parameter was recorded. The experimental values were compared with standard values. The water quality ranging from good to bad was found out, Following results were found out during the project work and these results used to find out the water quality indices. There is a relation between water quality index and status of water quality. If the water quality index is in the range of 90-100, then it is excellent quality water .WQI range 70-90 indicates good quality water.WQI 50-70 indicates medium quality water.WQI 25-50 indicate bad quality of water and 025 indicates very bad water quality. The water quality Mohadi Suburb was found good. The water quality from Kumar Nagar, Deopur church, Mahajan high school, Nateshwar Society, and Sitaram Mali Chal open public wells were found medium. The water quality from Annasaheb Patil Nagar and Jamnagiri Bhilati were fond poor The water quality from Patole 80ft road was found very bad. A research paper was published on these water quality index values of city water samples in international journal of chemical sciences 12 (2).2014, 489-494 ISSN 0972-768X The parameters PH, electronic conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, optical density, dissolved oxygen, total hardness, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, sodium, potassium and chloride were determined, electronic conductivity, total dissolved solids, turbidity, optical density, dissolved oxygen, total hardness, calcium hardness, magnesium hardness, sodium, potassium and chloride were determined. The data obtained from the experimental work is compared with standard values in order to draw the conclusions PH: In the present study PH ranged averagely from 7.11 to 8.65 in village water samples while that of city water samples it was ranged from 7.09 to 8.39. The standard limit for PH is 7.0 to 8.5 units. EC: Electronic conductivity values for village water sample ranged from 404 to3110 µ S/cm while that for city water samples it was ranged from830 to 3540 µ S/cm TDS : Total dissolved solids ranged from 555 to 2230 ppm in case of city water samples while that for village water sample ranged from 213 to 1959 ppmThe maximum standard limit for TDS1500ppm TH: Total hardness for village water samples averagely ranged from 112 to 528 ppm while in city samples it was ranged from 144 to 1007 ppm. The maximum permissible limit for TH is 600 ppm. Ca: The maximum allowable con. Of calcium ion in drinking water is 200 ppm .For village water sample it was ranged from 18 to162 ppm while in city it was ranged from 12 to 445 ppm. Mg: The maximum allowable con. of magnesium ion in drinking water is 150 ppm. It was ranged from 57 to 554 ppm in case of village water samples while in city it is ranged from 73 to586 ppm. D.O : The dissolved oxygen in village water samples ranged from 3.3 to 4.4 ppm while in city it was found 1.7 to 4.4.The standard permissible value is >5. Sodium: The max. limit for sodium is 200 ppm . It was ranged from 16 to n60 ppm in village water samples while it was found in normal range in city area. Potassium: The max. desirable range of potassium is 10 ppm. Both city and village samples containing normal conc. Of potassium All city water samples except Mohadi suburb were found poor quality water. The villages Gondur Nimdale and Kusumba was found good quality water and rest of the villages were found medium quality water. Two research papers were published from this project wok as shown below “Physico chemical analysis of public well water samples of some of the villages of Dhule Tahsil District Dhule (M.S)India-424005” Int. National Journal of Chemistry and Applications, Vol. 5No.1,pp55-60,2013 “Determination of water quality index of public open wells located in different areas of Dhule City (M.S) India” Int.J. Chem. Sci. : 12(2), 2014, 489-494 Some of the papers were also presented in conferences and seminars. With this practice interaction among the researchers working in this field is increased. Five papers by oral and by posters were presented in conferences on water and environment at different places Two papers were presented in national seminars on water and environ N.B: A paper published is attached Dr.N.N.Pawar
