General Manager
 Manage the running of the Club to deliver a positive experience for members, customers and other
stakeholders. Plan and implement activities to support the Club’s strategic plan and other key initiatives of
the Board of Management.

Accountabilities
Policy and Planning


Develop and recommend policies for approval by the Board of Management. Implement
approved Board policies in areas of responsibility
Organising and Operating

Manage the Club’s operations and activities, including
 Financial management
 Membership services
 Facilities and playing surfaces
 Function, bar and hospitality services

Manage the finances of the Club in conjunction with the Treasurer and Finance Committee,
ensuring that financial obligations are met while maintaining costs within budget and maximising
revenues

Contribute to the budgeting and strategic planning processes under the direction of the
Treasurer, Finance and Strategy committees

Act as the face of the Club, encouraging new members to join and existing members to renew or
upgrade. Maintain accurate membership records in the Club’s Bluize system. Manage all
processes around membership introduction, retention and cessation.

Work with the Marketing Committee to promote the Club and its services in order to attract and
retain members, function customers and sponsors.

Ensure that the Club’s facilities and playing surfaces are maintained to a high standard. Plan for
major/capital works in conjunction with the Board and relevant committees.

Oversee the booking, planning and execution of events for both internal and external customers
in conjunction with the Functions Manager.

Oversee the planning of Club activities to maximize the utilisation of Club facilities while ensuring
that the needs of Club sections, function customers and members are met.

Professionally operate functions and bar services in conjunction with the Functions Manager and
within the guidelines of the Board of Management and the House, Functions and Bar
Committee.

Act as a member of sub committees of the Board as requested.

Act as liaison with MCC in terms of key operational and strategic initiatives that require MCC
input or approval
Monitoring and Control

Produce reports and analyses on the performance of the Club’s income streams and expenses.
Provide this information and recommendations to the Board of Management and Board Subcommittees for review.

Determine trends and analyse discrepancies in performance of the Club’s income streams. Work
with responsible Sub-committees to recommend and implement measures to improve
performance.

Ensure rigid control over the handling of cash and any losses of stock or assets. Recommend
and implement actions to ensure the Club maintains a high standard of internal controls.

Comply with MCC Kew OH&S requirements and take reasonable care for own safety and the
safety of others, including patrons, staff. contractors etc. who may be affected by their actions.

Comply with all statutory and legal requirements which relate to the Club.
Personal Interaction

Primary liaison is with the Board Chair, and Board members when related to their areas of
responsibility to ensure effective communication of expectations and performance.

Liaise with heads of the sporting sections to plan events and provide support to the sporting
activities.

Work with direct reports to provide efficient and effective services to members, customers and
other stakeholders.
Qualifications and Skills
Qualifications and Experience

Minimum of seven years’ experience in similar roles managing licensed sporting and recreational
clubs.

A tertiary qualification in club management or business is desirable.

Current working with children and police check are mandatory.

Responsible Serving of Alcohol certificate, along with any other license or certificate required in
operating a licensed Club.
Skills and Abilities

Strong public presence and an assured style, operating as the face of the Club.

Business acumen, including a strong understanding of financial reporting and management in a
Club environment. Experience in the use of MYOB or similar.

Demonstrated ability to lead the implementation of a business plan, growing Club activities,

functions and member participation levels

Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with the Board of Management, Board Subcommittees, members, and staff

Professional approach to dealing with function centre customers, Club suppliers, and other
external stakeholders

Computer literacy and the ability to effectively learn and utilise systems

Strong organisational and leadership skills
