Head of School
Dear H.C.A. Family and Friends,
"...always and forever, giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the Father."
Ephesians 5:20
We are entering the yearly season of thanksgiving. Why is thanksgiving seasonal? Are we not commanded to give thanks always and forever ? Unfortunately, in our carnal nature, fallen man often perceives God's blessings as entitlements, and even as burdens. Before you say this is foolishness let me ask you a few questions.
Mom and Dad, when was the last time you gave thanks for the clinging arms of your toddler who refuses to let go of your leg? Have you thanked God for the warm autumn sun on your face, as you complain about raking the piles of falling leaves? As you take your aging parent to the doctor or the food store, have you said thank you Lord that I still have my loved one with me? Have you given thanks for the friend who stopped by for tea and interrupted your favorite TV show? Have you given thanks for the noisy dinner table, when many eat alone or have nothing to eat?
When was the last time you gave thanks for all things? All that we are and all that we have is not of our own doing, but is a gift from God. Therefore...
Give thanks with a grateful heart,
Give thanks to the Holy One,
Give thanks because He's given
Jesus Christ His son.
And now let the weak say "I am strong"
Let the poor say, "I am rich
Because of what the Lord has done for us"
Give thanks.
(Don Meon, 1986, Give Thanks)
As you read and reflect on the words of this contemporary hymn, may you begin to realize the need to give genuine thanks for the abundance of grace and blessings God has poured upon you. And may you dare to ask Him for one more thing - "Lord please give me a grateful heart."
May you and yours have a bountiful and blessed Thanksgiving.
In the Precious Name of Jesus,
Linda C. Lewis

We are happy to announce that Ms. Yaneth Franco will assume the Spanish teaching position as of
November 1, 2015 the beginning of the second marking period. She joined the H.C.A. family the last week in October and shadowed both Ms. Vazquez and Mrs. Miller. This time allowed her and the students to meet and pave the way for a smooth transition. My sincere appreciation is extended to Mrs. Esther Miller and Ms.
Connie Vazquez for their willingness to step-up and fill in the gap until the Lord brought us Ms. Franco.
I also need to inform you of another change coming to H.C.A. and our teaching staff. As most of you know
Mrs. Lauren Winter is expecting a child in March. While I am thrilled for Mrs. Winter, I am sad to share that she will not be returning after Christmas. Mrs. Winter is a loved member of the H.C.A. family and she will leave a void that will not be easily filled.
Mrs. Kimberly Levine has been hired as the third grade teacher. Mrs. Levine, a graduate of Cairn
University, will join H.C.A. December 1, 2015 and work alongside Mrs. Winter for the month of December.
This will make the transition easier for both the students and Mrs. Levine.
Art will continue to be offered to our students on Friday afternoons. Mrs. Wismer will teach art beginning in
January for Kindergarten - 5th grade students.
The Lord has made it possible through His providence to meet our needs for both a Spanish teacher and a
3rd grade teacher. God is always faithful and good. I am thankful for His provision of Ms. Franco and Mrs.
Levine as well as, the willingness of, Mrs. Wismer to teach art.
H.C.A. will sponsor a food driving beginning November 1 through November 23, 2015. Items will be donated to area food banks to help feed those in our community. Your support of this drive is appreciated as we give to those in need while teaching our children the importance of sharing and service. "Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." Matthew
25:40.

The new Family Directory was sent home last week with the youngest student in each family. Please check the information and let us know if there are any corrections which need to be made.
Remember, all information in the directory is confidential and for your personal use only. It is not to be used for business purposes or shared with those outside the school.
N OVEMBER EXTENDED CARE
Extended Care will be provided on November 9 th and 10 th when students are dismissed at 11:30 AM for report card conferences. There will be no afternoon extended care on November 11 th or November
25 th . Mark your calendars and plan accordingly.
Please label you child’s coats, sweaters, vests and other items. Children have a tendency to misplace and lose their coats, jackets and other personal items. Unless their names are on the items we cannot return them. Help us, help you, by labeling all your child’s belongs. .
Once again H.C.A. will have a special chapel to honor our veterans. The chapel will be Wednesday,
November 11, 2015 at 9:00 AM. Veterans are invited to a continental breakfast at 8:00 AM in the school gym. Each student may bring a family member who has served as a veteran for our country. Veterans may visit the classrooms until 10:30AM to share about their time spent serving our country. Veterans are urged to wear their uniforms, hats, medals, etc. to show the students.
!
Your child is important to us. We take our role seriously in meeting your child’s spiritual and academic needs; it is also our responsibility to keep our students safe when they are in school. Will your help us?
“No one is permitted to move about the building without a visitor’s pass” (page 14, Parent/Student
Handbook). If you have a legitimate reason (scheduled meeting, helping in the lunchroom, etc.) for being in the building, please sign in and obtain visitor’s pass. Please respect this policy and do not attempt to circumvent procedures. Parents arriving late in the morning with students are not permitted to walk their children to the class. This will be done by a staff member. Preschool parents are permitted, during inclement weather, to wait in the gym located on the first floor until it is time for class.
If your child is participating in an after school activity, they will be dismissed, by way of the ramp door.
Please wait for them at the top of the ramp. Extended Care Staff are responsible for watching children registered for Extended Care only. Unless your child is registered, they are not permitted to stay after school unless special arrangements have been made through the school office.
These policies are in effect for the safety and well being of all children. I appreciate your support and thank you for your cooperation,
Linda Lewis

H.C.A. held their annual Grandparent’s Day on October 9, 2015. The day began with a Chapel Service. Following
Chapel, students and grandparents enjoyed time together in the classrooms. The success of the day was evident by the smiles on the faces of both our students and their grandparents. A special thank you to the PTF, Mrs. Kelly, Student
Council, and other volunteers who prepared and served a delicious meal to our guests.
THANKSGIVING FEAST
Once again, we look forward to our Annual Thanksgiving Feast on Wednesday, November 25 th for students in K-8 th grade, full day and school day preschool. As in past years, we have again invited the firemen to join us. Please return the volunteer letter that was sent home. Your help is needed to make the day a success. Remember to sign in and pick up a visitor’s pass in the office.
