Assignment brief for Writing and Delivering Seminar Papers (WDSP) and Speaking and Listening Skills
(SLS) which can draw on the work done for the Research Project unit or any other substantial piece of
work.
Tasks
1. Edit the findings from your Research Project, or another piece of work you have generated, to
produce a seminar paper in no more than 750 words in which you compare and contrast different
perspectives on the topic you investigated. (WDSP AC 1.1)
2. Present the key points of your seminar paper in a 5-minute talk to your peers in which you use
visual aids. Ensure that any arguments you make are supported with credible evidence. (WDSP AC
2.1, 2.2 and 2.3. SLS AC 1.1, 1.2, 1.3, 1.4 & 4.3)
3. Take part in a group discussion of papers presented by your peers. (SLS AC 2.1, 2.2 4.1 & 4.2)
4. Write a 400-word self-evaluation of the strengths and weaknesses of your own presentation. (SLS
AC 5.1 & 5.2)
5. Write a 400-word evaluation of the group discussion in which you evaluate what you learned from it.

These tasks will generate the following evidence:
1. A seminar paper of no more 750 words.
2. A Tutor assessment record of your Presentation against the relevant assessment criteria.
3. A Tutor assessment record of your contribution to group discussion against the relevant
assessment criteria. See Tutor assessment templates below.
4. A 400-word self-evaluation.
5. A 400-word evaluation of group discussion.
