Develop and implement a comprehensive five-year EH&S strategic plan for the
largest nuclear shipyard in the country; represent the company’s interests in
emerging EH&S regulations and influential professional and trade associations.
Currently working with a corporate team to establish and operate Family Health
Centers to provide primary health care for over 66,000 covered lives.

comprising 231 employees (located in Virginia, Mississippi, Louisiana, and
California), and an annual budget of $75M. This organization provides support to
six shipyards and 40,000 employees. Five sites are certified by OSHA’s VPP
program, and two sites are ISO 14001 registered. Responsible for health and
safety, environmental, fire and emergency services, EHS design engineering,
workers compensation, and three on-site full-service medical facilities.

Environmental Division
Direct the risk management program for a $2 billion nuclear shipbuilding and
repair complex comprising over 500 acres and 18,000 employees. Responsible
for the Medical Department, Workers' Compensation Department, Health, Safety
and Environmental Departments, and all risk management efforts and division
TQM programs. Manage an annual budget in excess of $50.0M and a staff of 85
professionals. Directed efforts and programs to obtain “STAR” status in the
OSHA Voluntary Protection Program-NNS is the largest site in the program and
the only shipyard so recognized. Directed efforts to obtain ISO14001
Environmental Management Systems certification – again, the largest in the U.S.
Awarded the OSHA "impact" award by the Assistant Secretary of Labor for
Distinguished Service on the OSHA Shipyard Employment Standards Advisory
Committee. NNS was awarded Workers’ Compensation Program of the Year in
1999 by Risk and Insurance magazine.

Environmental Department
Managed a comprehensive corporate occupational health, safety and
environmental program for a 31,000-employee shipyard. Determined and
implemented company policy and programs regarding preventive occupational
health and safety matters and environmental concerns. Investigated worker
compensation claims and served as an expert witness in litigation. Studied
causes of occupational injuries and illnesses and implemented appropriate
control measures. Developed Corporate MSDS program and other databases to
support EPA SARA III, CERCLA, RCRA, and other required health, safety, and
environmental reports. Developed self-assessment and quality control models
and programs. Participated in environmental compliance audits. Directed the
plant Pest Control Program. Directed training programs for chemical, physical,
and biological agents. Managed a staff of thirty-seven professionals, including
five Board Certified Industrial Hygienists, two certified safety professionals and
two Industrial Hygienists-in-training. Managed an annual budget of $2.0M and
assets of $2.5M.

Managed a performance-oriented industrial hygiene program for the largest
private shipyard in the Country. Developed and implemented comprehensive
occupational health programs to minimize exposures to hazardous substances.
Established and maintained an AIHA - accredited laboratory. Developed and
implemented training programs for occupational health hazards such as lead,
asbestos, and noise. Managed an annual budget of $800K and assets of $1.5M.
