Montreal, May 2, 2014 TO ALL MEDICAL RESIDENTS AND CLINICAL FELLOWS BELONGING TO AN FMRQ-AFFILIATED ASSOCIATION TO ALL CLINICAL CLERK 2S Subject: Election of the members of the FMRQ Board of Directors for 2014-2015 Dear Colleagues, The positions of directors on the board of the Fédération des médecins résidents du Québec (FMRQ) are filled by means of annual elections, and this democratic process concerns you all. These elections take place between May 15 and June 15 each year at a meeting of the Delegates’ Assembly. These delegates from each of the FMRQ’s four affiliated associations are medical residents’ representatives, and one of their roles is to elect the members of the FMRQ board. These positions are open to all medical residents, and to clinical fellows belonging to an FMRQ-affiliated association and Clinical Clerk 2s who will be starting their residency in July 2014. The Federation’s renewal and vitality depend on you, and we invite you to get involved so as to contribute to the FMRQ’s growth. To that end, attached hereto is a list of positions for which you may stand under the FMRQ’s General By-law, along with a nomination form. Please feel free to get in touch with the FMRQ to learn about the roles and responsibilities associated with these different positions. You will observe that the composition of the board of directors was recently modified through the FMRQ governance review process. Exceptionally, nomination deadlines were shortened this year. The positions of president, secretary and treasurer were maintained, while standing committee chairpersons will no longer have a seat on the board. Instead, three board members with sectoral responsibility will be elected to provide follow-up in the Academic Affairs – Specialties, Academic Affairs – Family Medicine, and Union Affairs sectors. Also, the four medical resident associations (AMRM, ARM, AMReQ and AMReS) will each nominate candidates to hold a seat reserved for them on the FMRQ board. These nominations will be presented like all nominations for the other director positions at the Delegates’ Assembly meeting devoted to the elections, on June 13, 2014. If an association representative were not to be elected on that date, the election for that position would be held at the subsequent Delegates’ Assembly meeting. Note that those responsible for the Physician Resource Committee and the Resident Wellness Committee will be appointed by the directors in office as of July 1 each year. So you have only to be a medical resident or clinical fellow belonging to an FMRQaffiliated association as of July 1, 2014 and to wish to be involved in the cause of medical residents’ living, work and study conditions to submit your nomination, subject to the specific conditions of provenance (associations, specialties, family medicine) for certain positions. The directors holding these positions for 2013-2014 are also available to answer your questions. They are: President of the FMRQ Secretary of the FMRQ Treasurer of the FMRQ Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee – Specialties Chair of the Academic Affairs Committee – Family Medicine Chair of the Union Affairs Committee Dr Joseph Dahine Dr Grégoire Bernèche Dr Maxime Dussault-Laurendeau Dr François Caron Dr David Bacon Dr Caroline Lacroix We do hope we have been able to stimulate your interest in playing an active role in FMRQ affairs. Yours truly, Joseph Dahine, MDCM President Encl. (2)
