How to Become a Psychologist in Georgia

1. Earn a Doctoral Degree and Complete an Approved Internship

Obtain a doctoral degree from an American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological
Association (CPA) accredited doctoral program in applied psychology or from an I/O or international program.
Complete an APA or CPA accredited or Association of Psychology and Internship Centers (APPIC) member
internship, or its equivalent.
2. Complete Post-Doctoral Supervised Work (SWE)

Complete a 1500 hour postdoctoral supervised work (SWE) experience.
You may move on to steps three (3) and four (4) once you have started your post-doc position.
3. Decide if you need or want to be licensed

Learn about who needs to be licensed in the state of Georgia in order to utilize the term "psychologist" and practice

4a. Apply for Licensure

Submit a completed application initiation form including all supporting documents and the fee made payable to the
Georgia Board.
Once registered with the Georgia Board, the Association of State and Provincial Psychology Boards (ASPPB) will
notify applicants to register for participation in their Psychology Licensure Universal System (PLUS) program
application process.
Pass the Examination for the Professional Practice of Psychology (EPPP).
Pass the Jurisprudence Exam.
Pass the oral exam given by the Georgia Board of Examiners or their representatives.

5. You're Licensed!
