Annual Target: £2.5M Responsible: Philanthropy Manager Deadline for applications: 20th November 2014 Overview of the Organisation Impetus – The Private Equity Foundation (Impetus-PEF) is committed to transforming the lives of economically disadvantaged 11-24 year olds by ensuring they get the support they need to succeed in education, find and keep jobs, and achieve their potential. Role Purpose To contribute to and help co-create the philanthropy team of Impetus-PEF to meet the target of £45m within five years, building capability, professionalism and innovation in every area of fund-raising to ensure significant and sustained progressive growth of income over this period. Key responsibilities Key areas of responsibility • • Assist in delivery of the strategy that will guide the Philanthropy Team in meeting the current campaign target £45m over a five-year period. Develop capability, professionalism and delivery across the fund-raising areas of Private Equity Industry and surrounding “secondaries” such as banks, law firms and management consultants, as well as raising funds from individuals within all donor and potential donor firms. • Deliver an income against a personal target established with the Director of Philanthropy. • Work collaboratively with the Director of Philanthropy on all aspects of fundraising, producing regular reports of progress against plan. Maintain high-level relationships with donors-askers and prospective donors, maximising opportunities to secure new sources of income. Leverage the contacts of Trustees and pro bono supporters to good effect. Provide support and meticulous follow-up to the Chairman, Trustees, senior management and senior volunteers to encourage introductions to potential sources of giving and to ensure their successful involvement in the fund-raising process. • • • • • • • • • • Work with the Philanthropy and Events teams to ensure fundraising events are a success, in particular the annual awards dinner. Ensure all communications with external stakeholders is prompt, clear and compelling, this includes the continuing testing and honing of all fundraising collateral to continuously improve the fundraising ask and stewardship strategies. Help to create and monitor processes and systems to nurture a high performing team. Demonstrate a level of professionalism and best practice across the philanthropy team and within the organisation that is exemplary. Line manage Manager of Philanthropy providing guidance and support in development of donor strategies, monitor KPI’s and financial targets, mentor professionalism and best practices. Contribute effectively to the wider operational and strategic development of the organisation working at a strategic and cross organisation level. Fully comply with all of the organisation’s employment and other policies and procedures Person specification • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • Graduate or equivalent. A proven track record in corporate or major donor fund-raising, supported by evidence of raising significant amounts of money for charities. Ability to maximise networks – both internal and external. The ability to direct, lead and personally work through the fund-raising cycle with donors. Experience of operating at a senior level with demanding and challenging people including trustees and external stakeholders. A track record as a high-performing member of a team, helping to run the team and contributing beyond own area of responsibility. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Solid financial management with an ability to establish and deliver a budget, streamlining and finding economies where necessary. Intellectually strong, able to grasp and interpret complex ideas, including the venture philanthropy model of Impetus-PEF. Presence, credibility, motivational skills, natural ability to command respect based on experience, delivery and ability to look beyond own area of expertise. Excellent relationship skills to establish and maintain contacts with key (internal and external) stakeholders. Strategic thinking, planning and doing – with an ability to generate concepts and ideas, translate then into tangible tactics and execute them; Evidence of an innovative, creative approach and the ability to think laterally. Excellent negotiation skills. Experience in managing a high performing team and ability to mentor on the job.
