Country Walks.

May walk.

16 walkers set out on a bright morning for an eight mile walk from Bardney through the Lincolnshire Limewoods and surrounding countryside.

For a short distance we picked up the national cycle track on our way to

Southery Ferry before visiting the fascinating church of St. John in Southery village. It was built about 100 years ago by a local benefactor and is of wooden construction, quite small but very welcoming. There are a number of stained glass windows honouring men from the village who have fallen in conflicts up to the present day.

We then walked through Birch Wood and Southery Wood which were carpeted with bluebells, white aconites, red and white campions and a few orchids for the eagle-eyed amongst us.

After their exertions, walkers enjoyed a splendid fish and chip lunch at the

Bardney Heritage Centre.

Our thanks to John and Iris Whitaker for leading the walk.

Next walk is Saturday 6 th June.

A 7 mile walk in the woodland and countryside around Woodhall Spa.

Walkers should meet at the village hall at 9-30am and are advised to take a waterproof coat, wear suitable footwear, bring a drink and a snack.

Everyone is welcome to join in these walks.
