NHS Officer Expectations Make being an NHS officer you #1 non-academic priority. This is not just a college application decoration. Be available to the NHS advisors on a regular basis. Attend Officer Meetings held one to two times a month. Attend every membership mandatory meeting. Participate in all NHS events. Standard NHS events include: Homecoming Dance - officers are expected to help choose a theme, help decorate for the dance during school and after school, and help sell tickets during lunches and study halls during the week of Homecoming. NHS Induction Ceremony - officers all participate in the ceremony by giving speeches, reading names, etc. Teacher Appreciation Week (usually first week in May) - officers assist in planning for teacher gifts and distributing them. Service Projects. Do not apply if… You cannot commit the required amount of time. You plan on being an officer for any other activity. National Honor Society BOARD MEMBER REQUIREMENTS President: Induction Ceremony Speech (Must be typed out and submitted to Mrs. Hoefling two weeks prior to the ceremony) Supervision of a room for Induction Night Responsible for creating and updating an NHS Facebook page Responsible for entering all member cell numbers onto your phone and for texting announcements Running meetings Work closely with Ms. Ernest on homecoming CLOSE communication with both Ms. Hoefling and Ms. Ernest Vice President: Supervision of a room for Induction Night Responsible for coming up with one creative community service event for all membership (Working with the Community Service person on this) Work with the Points person on what needs to be done with the two point check-in dates Assist the president with running meetings All responsibilities that go along with the election of new board members Secretary of State: Induction Ceremony organization (Work with Ms. Hoefling) Organization of Teacher Appreciation Points: Update and maintain the electronic form for points submission Complete handing of the two point check-in dates and report back to Ms. Hoefling and Ms. Ernest Communication with the membership person to add hours to those missing meetings Treasurer: Find opportunities for school involvement (Special Olympics, Blood Drive, Best Buddies, etc.) Work closely with Ms. Ernest on homecoming Tutoring: Work closely with Ms. Ernest Update electronic forms on the web page Community Service: Create and organize two all membership community service events (Work on one with the President and one with the Vice President) Give all announcements for community service opportunities to the tech person to go on the NHS web page, facebook, texts, and e-mails Update electronic point submission forms Membership: Sign-in sheets for attendance at meetings and records Give names of students absent from meetings to the points person After each meeting, give any cell number or e-mail changes to the president and Ms. Hoefling Technology: Total maintenance and updating of the NHS web page Printing out of applications for membership Printing out of application for 2013-14 board members Come up with an online election system When either Ms. Hoefling or Ms. Ernest requests an announcement on the NHS web page, IT MUST BE PUT ON THE PAGE WITHIN 24 HOURS! Application The application process begins in April, and applications are due NO LATER THAN April 26 th. EVERYTHING you submit MUST be typed, no handwritten information will be accepted. YOU MUST BE A JUNIOR DURING THE 2012-13 SCHOOL YEAR TO APPLY. YOU MUST BE WILLING TO GIVE A SPEECH ON THE MORNING OF ELECTIONS TO ALL NHS MEMBERS. All applicants must be honest in their information and submit all of the following parts in order to process everything efficiently and in a timely manner: 1) The Board Member Requirement sheet must be read by you, your name printed at the bottom, and signed by you. 2) An essay of up to 250 words concerning the following prompt: Please write a short paragraph or two describing why you want to be an officer and why you think you are the best choice for the position. 3) A one page resume The resume should AT LEAST include your extracurricular activities, achievements & awards, and work experience.
