Yorkshire Wildlife Park Visit What a glorious day the children had at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park on Wednesday and what a long way they all walked! Mrs Carte and Mrs Wood were both full of praise for their good behaviour, enthusiasm and stamina! Well done everyone! Wildlife Club The Wildlife Club met for the first time on Tuesday and had great fun exploring the wildlife around the school grounds. The club are looking forward to enhancing our school as a wildlife haven. The Wildlife Club hope to build a minibeast tower for school and individual minibeast houses to take home. We would be grateful for any of the following: Pallets Logs Canes Clay plant pots www.hovingham.n-yorks.sch.uk Great New Maths Website Children in Class 2 have been subscribed to a trial of Mathletics which is a website for practising maths. They all received their username and password yesterday and got started in school. They have brought their details home with them so they can also access it at home. It's another excellent way of practising key skills from the curriculum in a child friendly way. It would be great if you could encourage your child to have a go at home and then we can decide if it's something that we would like to continue using. The website is http://www.mathletics.co.uk/ Test Week 11 May Many of the children will be completing tests in the week beginning 11 May. Children have worked very hard and we would like all children to do their best in the tests. To support your child to do their very best, you could spend some time going over some of the homework activities that they have been doing this year. Practising SMIRF targets would be a really good way of increasing your child's confidence in many areas of maths. Being able to recall facts quickly will be a great help in the tests. Talking to your child about the book they are reading and asking questions about the characters, setting, author's choice of words, etc will practise skills needed for the reading test. For the Y6s, spending some time revising the key word types (such as nouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, pronouns, etc) will help them in the SPAG test. Multiskills Competition Our final team of children went off to the Howardian Hills multiskills competition at Terrington yesterday and competed really well. This time we had quite a young team, with several reception children taking part in an inter-school competition for the first time which was great to see. Well done Nathan, Barney, Gracie, Charlotte, Fiona, Felix D-A, Emily, Jake, Willow and Evie.
