China Scholarship Council Programme
Dear Colleagues,
I am writing to draw your attention to the College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences continued support for the
China Scholarship Council Scholarship Programme. This Programme is overseen by China Scholarship Council
(affiliated to the Chinese Ministry of Education), and was approved in early 2007 and funds Chinese university students
to study overseas for a PhD degree. The aim of the programme is to sponsor first-class Chinese students to study for
PhD degrees in primarily science and technology fields at first-class universities overseas.
The scholarships cover air fares and living costs for up to 4 years. The University of Glasgow has agreed to waive
tuition fees for successful applicants and has signed agreements with seven Chinese partner universities. While
applications are welcomed from all students who meet the entry requirements, preference will be given to students
from our partner universities. This year the College will support 10 scholarships providing tuition fee waivers for
applicants from the partner universities who are successful in obtaining a China Scholarship Council studentship.
In providing tuition fee waivers for CSC sponsored students, the University of Glasgow will give preference to
students from the following partner universities:

Huazhong University of Science and Technology

Nankai University

Sichuan University

Sun Yat-Sen University

Tianjin University

Xian Jiaotong University

Wuhan University
Please note that not all Chinese Universities are eligible under CSC guidelines. Please contact Audrey Hillis, Graduate
School (audrey.hillis@glasgow.ac.uk) for an up to date list of institutions that are eligible to apply. Eligible institutions
are normally those deemed 985 and 211 Universities.
Applications will be received by the Commission via the participating Chinese institutions between 20th March to 5th
April 2016, however potential applicants must be identified to the Graduate School via Audrey Hillis by 11 March 2016.
At the time of applying, applicants must have already received:
1.
2.
3.
an unconditional offer from University of Glasgow
confirmation from the University of Glasgow that tuition will be waived on gaining CSC stipend
a recommendation from the applicant's home (Chinese) university.
