Can They Do It?
North MontCo Technical HS
Student Showing Off Seat Belt
Challenge Tee-Shirt
Twenty–nine percent of the
students driving at North MontCo
Technical High School do not
wear their seat belts when they are
driving. So at a recent assembly,
the PTMA challenged over 100
students to improve that number.
With the assistance of Officer
Dave
Dunlap
from
the
Montgomery Township Police
Department, the students viewed
some frightening videos that
demonstrated how dangerous it is
not to wear your seat belt. After
discussions on why students do
not wear seat belts, they were
challenged to improve their usage.
In the next few weeks, the PTMA
will return to the school to do an
unannounced count on the
number of drivers wearing seat
belts. Stay tuned to see if they can
improve!
Weekly Holiday Safety Alerts
will begin the week of November
25th. These Alerts provide
information on how to have a
safe holiday no matter how you
travel.
They are great for
sharing – make sure you are
signed up to receive them!

Day Light Saving

Weekend – Beware!
The first week of driving after
Daylight Savings Time ends is
the most dangerous because
people have not adjusted to
driving in the dark. Here are
some tips to keep in mind.
Use their headlights when dusk
arrive and use the night setting
on your rearview mirror to avoid
glare from headlights.
Be courteous with your high
beams. Switch them over as
oncoming vehicles approach.
Drive cautiously. Be alert and
watchful for bicyclists and
pedestrians on the roadside, as
well as at crosswalks.
Supervise small children as
they enter and exit the vehicle,
especially when parking on a
street. Make them use a
curbside door away from
traffic.
Make
sure
to
remove
sunglasses at dusk — drivers
often forget they are wearing
them.
Keep your eyes moving from
side to side while driving
instead of focusing on the
center line or the road ahead.
This keeps your eyes adjusted
to the dark and helps avoid
"highway hypnosis" .
Nighttime motorists should
