If you haven’t visited our website lately, you may want to go and take a look.AWe have done some refreshing and now have our Twitter feed included along with other new options. The site is easier to read and includes new photographs. Coming soon will be a new photo gallery. For membership year, 2013-2014, your invoices will be arriving through email. This provides us with the opportunity to get your invoice in the most efficient manner possible and of course, stay green while doing so. In the next few months, the PTMA will select a consultant to assist us in developing a five year Strategic Plan. When going through this process, we will need the assistance of our valuable members – so stayed tuned as we move through this exciting q process. Community Travel Training events will begin in November and continue through December. If you know someone that would like to learn how to use transit, they can join the PTMA at the Lansdale Library on November 7th from 6:30 pm to 7:30 pm to experience the SEPTA bus. If someone is interested in learning how to use the train, the PTMA will sponsor a trip on December 9th meeting at the Lansdale Train Station at 9:30 am. All trainings are FREE but participants should register in advance by calling the toll free Mobility Hotline at 866-507-4857. Can They Do It? North MontCo Technical HS Student Showing Off Seat Belt Challenge Tee-Shirt Twenty–nine percent of the students driving at North MontCo Technical High School do not wear their seat belts when they are driving. So at a recent assembly, the PTMA challenged over 100 students to improve that number. With the assistance of Officer Dave Dunlap from the Montgomery Township Police Department, the students viewed some frightening videos that demonstrated how dangerous it is not to wear your seat belt. After discussions on why students do not wear seat belts, they were challenged to improve their usage. In the next few weeks, the PTMA will return to the school to do an unannounced count on the number of drivers wearing seat belts. Stay tuned to see if they can improve! Weekly Holiday Safety Alerts will begin the week of November 25th. These Alerts provide information on how to have a safe holiday no matter how you travel. They are great for sharing – make sure you are signed up to receive them! PTMA’s Monthly News Brief Issue 62 November 1, 2013 Day Light Saving Time Ends This Weekend – Beware! The first week of driving after Daylight Savings Time ends is the most dangerous because people have not adjusted to driving in the dark. Here are some tips to keep in mind. Use their headlights when dusk arrive and use the night setting on your rearview mirror to avoid glare from headlights. Be courteous with your high beams. Switch them over as oncoming vehicles approach. Drive cautiously. Be alert and watchful for bicyclists and pedestrians on the roadside, as well as at crosswalks. Supervise small children as they enter and exit the vehicle, especially when parking on a street. Make them use a curbside door away from traffic. Make sure to remove sunglasses at dusk — drivers often forget they are wearing them. Keep your eyes moving from side to side while driving instead of focusing on the center line or the road ahead. This keeps your eyes adjusted to the dark and helps avoid "highway hypnosis" . Nighttime motorists should make sure their safety kit
