8:20-8:30 Take attendance, take lunch count, students complete morning work.
8:30-9:45 Math
Objective: Students will demonstrate knowledge of linear measurements and estimation.
Materials: Rulers, yard sticks, Measurement Scavenger Hunt worksheets
Procedures: We will review linear measurements, then students will complete a “Measurement
Scavenger Hunt” in groups of 3 to practice estimating and measuring.
Assessment: Measurement Scavenger Hunt worksheet, participation with group

10:00-10:55 Reading
Objective: The students will comprehend and respond to narrative text - the novel Maniac Magee.
Materials: Maniac Magee novels, Sequencing worksheets, Fact/Opinion
Procedure: To review what happened in the story so far, we will complete sequencing worksheets.
After reviewing the story, we will review some reading skills (determining fact/opinion and classifying
sentences) using Maniac Magee as a reference. Students will complete skill worksheets. (we did not
complete this Friday)
Assessment: Sequencing WS, Reading Skills worksheets

Objective: The students will demonstrate knowledge of spelling.
Materials: Notebook paper
Procedure: Students will be given their unit 4 spelling pretest. They will be asked to copy each word
missed three times to practice.
Assessment: Unit 4 spelling pretest.

12:50-2:00 Social Studies
Objective: Students will build background knowledge of Native Americans.
Materials: Smart Board, Textbooks
Procedure: We will begin by reviewing what we have read in Unit 1 so far using the power point CD on
the Smart Board. After reviewing the information, we will read about Plains Indians and students will be
asked to sketch a Native American home we have learned about so far, and write a sentence describing
that Native American group.
Assessment: Sketch and sentence describing Native American group

Procedures: We will go to Mrs. Otte’s room for a lesson on place value with the entire fifth grade.

Objective: The students will comprehend and respond to narrative text - the novel Maniac Magee.
Materials: Maniac Magee novels, Chapters 18-19 questions
Procedure: We will read chapters 18-19 of Maniac Magee and students will respond to a variety of
questions about the content.
Assessment: Chapter 18-19 worksheets

At the start of Language, we will go over Daily Language Sentences
Objective: The students will demonstrate knowledge of capitalization rules.
Materials: Notebook paper, capitalization rule packet
Procedure: We will review the capitalization rules packet. Students will be asked to write sentences
demonstrating the next 10 rules (rules 5-14, one sentence per rule).
Assessment: Capitalization sentences.

Students will take the Reading MAPPS test. Those finishing early will go to Math Facts in a Flash for 1015 minutes, then read AR until the entire class has finished.
11:00-11:25 Math
Due to morning testing, rather than a full lesson, we will have a math “brain break” to practice
computation. As a class, we will play the game, SKUNK using the smart board and notebook paper.

12:50-1:30 Science
Objective: Students will build background knowledge of Earth’s different landforms (Earth science).
Materials: Textbook, Vocabulary sheet
Procedure: We will continue filling out the Science study guide for vocabulary for this chapter, moving
on to Earth’s Landforms. We will read Lesson 2 as a class and pause to fill out the vocabulary sheet.

Students will fill out “Alphaboxes” of everything they remember from the field trip. This brainstorming
device will later be used to create a piece of writing.

Students will go to the community garden, located at the back of the playground, to help maintain it.

Objective: Students will demonstrate knowledge of computation involving linear measurements.
Materials: Smart Board, textbooks
Procedures: We will review linear measurements. We will go over the procedure for adding mixed
measurements (such as 6 feet 4 inches + 5 feet 10 inches). We will practice this procedure, then
students will be asked to demonstrate the procedure on their own.
Assessment: Addition/subtraction problems from the textbook.

Objective: The students will comprehend and respond to narrative text - the novel Maniac Magee.
Materials: Maniac Magee novels, Chapters 20 and 21 questions

students will respond to questions about these chapters.
