'The company's objective is the manufacture and distribution of food products
in such manner as to promote a mutuality of services and benefits among all
stakeholders.' - Forrest E. Mars, Sr.1947 (www.mars.com, 2015)
Mars, Inc. is an American global manufacturer of confectionery, pet food, and
other food products with US$33 billion in annual sales in 2013, and is ranked as
the 6th largest privately held company in the United States by Forbes.
From free candy to pet-friendly perks, Mars was founded by Frank C. Mars and
is a company that is known for the confectionery items that it creates such
as Milky Way, M&M's, Twix, Skittles, Snickers, and the Mars bar. They also
produce non-confectionery snacks, such as Combos, and other foods,
including Uncle Ben's Rice and pasta sauce brand Dolmio, as well as pet foods,
such as Whiskas and Pedigree brands. (www.wikipedia.org, 2015)
Its diversified galaxy of brands for man and beast are iconic — from chocolate
favorites like M&M’s and Snickers to Wrigley’s Juicy Fruit and Lifesavers to petcare products like Pedigree and Whiskas, as well as Uncle Ben’s Converted Rice.
The company says it does 200 million consumer transactions a day. But despite
that reach across civilization and into customer pockets, Mars is among the
most secretive, insular, and little understood multinational companies around.

Mars is governed by a Board of Directors who are members of the Mars
family, and who receive independent advice from four external Board
Advisors. Day-to-day operations at Mars are directed by a global
management team, led by Grant F. Reid, Office of the President.
The Audit Committee helps the Board ensure integrity in our accounting

Business Integrity
Our longstanding commitment to our Five Principles has consistently
fostered a culture of ethics and integrity. This makes us proud to be Mars
Associates. Our business continues to grow globally, often in places where
cultural norms may differ and regulations may be less stringent than our
own standards. We know how important it is to equip our Associates with
the training and tools to make decisions that live up to the high ethical
standards we expect of everyone at Mars.
Ensuring Compliance
A key part of nurturing our ethical culture is ensuring all Associates are
familiar with our Five Principles and what it means to incorporate them into
our decision making. This begins with “Essence of Mars” training for new
Associates. Our Five Principles and other expectations of Mars leaders are
also woven into all Senior Leadership Programs.
However, we recognize that a culture that fosters responsible business
behavior alone is not sufficient. Today’s global, diverse and fast-paced
business environment brings evolving and increasingly complex legal
requirements in areas such as competition law and anti-corruption
compliance. It has never been more important for our Associates to
understand their legal and ethical responsibilities.
