Coordinator – Sustainable Agriculture

Key Result Areas/Accountabilities for the position
The Coordinator – Sustainable Agriculture will:

Leading the design, development and implementation of sustainable rural initiatives within the region
and via partnerships at the state and national scales.

Leading a team of sustainable agriculture professionals, within Reef Catchments, to develop, coordinate
and report on improved rural land management initiatives in collaboration with industry partners and
other stakeholders.

Maintaining the focus of the sub-program to;
o Foster sustainable production
o Support innovation in rural systems
o Enhance land manager skills and capacity development
o Actively improve integration and planning across rural sector operations (regional scale)
o Generate improved condition of the natural resources in the rural landscape.

Leading the development and implementation of proposals and funding applications in conjunction with
staff, partners and investors that relate to sustainable agriculture in the Mackay Whitsunday region.

Ensuring that contracted milestones and activities are completed on time and according to budget and
leads the reporting of outputs and outcomes back to key government and private investors and
stakeholders.

Coordinating the development and delivery of communications, promotions, marketing strategies and
plans.

Developing networks and maintaining links with various natural resource management stakeholders
including community groups, industry organisations, local government, interest groups, State &
Commonwealth agencies, relevant to achieving enhanced natural resources management outcomes for
the Mackay Whitsunday region.

Promoting an inclusive team culture across Reef Catchments Limited programs and with the other Reef
Catchments group entities.

Undertaking supervisory responsibilities which may include interviewing and participating in hiring;
training staff; planning and delegating work; motivating staff; appraising performance; rewarding, exit
interviews and disciplining staff; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Liaising and coordinating with the CEO, Senior Executive Staff and Board Directors on an as required
basis.

Conforming to all Reef Catchments policies, procedures and operation processes.

Working towards and supporting a safe, equitable and harassment free workplace.

Ensure that the company complies with adopted WH&S management systems, including statutory
obligations and verification of required resources.
Selection criteria

SC1 - Tertiary qualification in a relevant field such as Agriculture, Applied Science or Natural Resource
Management with a minimum of five (5) years experience in the agriculture sector.

SC2 - Very good understanding of agricultural systems in tropical environments and the impact of
agricultural land uses on water quality, including the agricultural land use and management practices
required to deliver improved water quality and natural resource outcomes.

SC3 - Demonstrated skills in the development and implementation of agricultural improvement program
and projects including proposal writing, budgeting, reporting, contract and contractor management.

SC4 - Demonstrated experience managing staff in multi-jurisdictional work teams including workforce
planning and staff performance management.

SC5 - Demonstrated project management skills including the ability to coordinate multiple projects and
budgets.

SC6 - Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate with
influence to a diverse client base including farmers, agricultural industry groups, government and
contractors.

SC7 - Current manual Driver’s Licence.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed on how you meet the selection criteria listed in this role description. To ensure that
sufficient information is provided to allow an informed assessment to be made, you are required to:

the bullet points listed under selection criteria. Your response should be no more than 2 pages; and
2.

The selection panel will assess your ability to perform the work required of the position based on your response
and resume and other selection processes which may include an interview and/or work test.
