The Nativity of the Lord
2011
Welcome!
Dear Parishioners, Friends, and Visitors to Divine Word,
Blessings and Peace as we celebrate the birth of Christ! Let us rejoice in the
Lord, for our Savior is born to the world. True peace has descended from heaven.
(Entrance Antiphon- Mass at Midnight)
We join Christians around the world as we celebrate the birth of Christ.
As we find ourselves in this present moment, we join all of the faithful past
and present to proclaim anew that Christ is born!
The Christmas scene in the Gathering Area is a visual reminder of the
important event we celebrate for young and old alike. Please take some
time to visit the scene.
For all who join us during these days of Christmas, know that you are
always welcome! The grace of God continues to work in our lives as we
journey through life. To all those who may be alone at this holiday season,
your presence reminds all of us that, in God's House, no one is ever alone.
A special thanks to Bishop Roger Gries for leading our celebration at the
11:00am Mass. We love having you here. Also, special thanks to Becky
Harper and our Divine Word choir. So much work goes into these
celebrations; thank you for the beautiful music. Special thanks also to all
who contributed to our celebrations: lectors, extraordinary ministers of
Holy Communion, sacristans, ushers, and the Liturgy and Art and
Environment Commissions. Together you have deepened our worship
experience.
To all of you, may the celebration of the birth of Christ renew within your
hearts peace, hope and joy.

Rules for the Reception of Communion
For Catholics
As Catholics, we fully participate in the celebration of Mass when we
receive Holy Communion. We are encouraged to receive Communion
devoutly and to do so being properly disposed, not aware of any grave sin,
and after fasting for one hour.
For non-Catholic Christians
We welcome to this celebration of Mass our brothers and sisters.
Regarding the reception of Holy Communion, there are rules. Members
of the Orthodox Churches, the Assyrian Church of the East, and the Polish
National Catholic Church may receive Holy Communion, provided that
they are properly disposed. Other baptized Christians may only receive
Holy Communion in exceptional circumstances, with the permission of
the diocesan bishop, in accord with the provisions of Church teaching.
For non-Christians
We also welcome those who do not share our faith in Jesus Christ. While
we cannot offer them Holy Communion, we ask them to offer their
prayers for the peace and unity of the human family.
For everyone who is not receiving Holy Communion at this
Mass
All who are not receiving Holy Communion are encouraged to express in
their hearts a prayerful desire for unity with the Lord Jesus and with one
another.

Greeting
Penitential Act, Form A
I confess to almighty God
and to you, my brothers and sisters,
that I have greatly sinned,
in my thoughts and in my words,
in what I have done and in what I have failed to do,
And, striking their breast, they say:
through my fault, through my fault,
through my most grievous fault;
Then they continue:
Therefore I ask Mary ever-Virgin,
all the Angels and Saints,
and you, my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

The Lord be with you.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to N.
Glory to you, O Lord.
Homily
Profession of Faith
Niceo-Constantinopolitan (“Nicene”) Creed
I believe in one God,
the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
At the words that follow, up to and including and became man, all bow.
and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
8
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead
and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Liturgy of the Eucharist
Preparation of the Altar and the Gifts
The Vigil Mass and
Mass during the Day
The First Nowell
The First Noel, the Angels did say,
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell
Born is the King of Israel!
They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the East, beyond them far,
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell
Born is the King of Israel!
And by the light of that same star
Three Wise men came from country far;
To seek for a king was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.
Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell
Born is the King of Israel!
This star drew nigh to the northwest,
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest
And there it did both stop and stay,
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
9
Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell
Born is the King of Israel!
Then entered in those wise men three,
Full rev’rently upon their knee,
And offered there in his presence,
Their gold and myrrh and frankincense.
Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell
Born is the King of Israel!
Then let us all with one accord
Sing praises to our heav’nly Lord;
Who with the Father we adore
And Spirit blest for evermore.
Nowell, Nowell, Nowell, Nowell
Born is the King of Israel!

All:
Behold the Lamb of God,
Behold him who takes away the sins of the world.
Blessed are those called to the supper of the Lamb.
Lord, I am not worthy
that you should enter under my roof,
but only say the word
and my soul shall be healed.
Please remain standing throughout the Communion Rite.
When receiving Holy Communion, please bow your head before the
Sacrament as a gesture of reverence. Upon returning to your pew,
please remain standing and singing, until all have received
communion.
12
Behold the Lamb
Those who were in the dark are thankful for the sunlight; we who live, we who
die are grateful for his gift, thankful for his love.
Refrain: Behold the Lamb of God. All who eat, all who drink shall live, shall
live; and all, all who dwell in God, in God shall come to know his glory.
Peaceful now, those whose hearts are blessed with understanding. Of the wheat,
of the wine united with his word and the love we share.
Gentle one, Child of God, join with us at this table. Bless our lives; nourish all
who hunger for this feast; shelter them with peace.
Lord of all, give us light. Deliver us from evil. Make us one; be our shield. Make
still the winds that blow; cradle us with love.

Concluding Rite
Priest:
People:
The Lord be with you.
And with your spirit.
Joy to the World
Joy to the World! the Lord is come:
Let earth receive her King;
Let ev’ry heart prepare him room,
And Heav’n and nature sing,
And Heav’n and nature sing,
And Heav’n, and Heav’n, and nature sing.
Joy to the world! the Savior reigns:
Let us, our songs employ;
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.
No more let sins and sorrows grow,
Nor thorns infest the ground;
He comes to make his blessings flow
Far as the curse is found,
Far as the curse is found,
Far as, far as, the curse is found.
13
He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove
The glories of His righteousness,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders of His love,
And wonders, wonders, of His love.
