Harry’s extensive production management experience in the tunnelling
industry has taken him all over the world. He has extensive technical
construction knowledge in all types of tunnel excavation, ground support and
lining and his practical experience in delivering some of the largest and most
complex tunnel projects in the world combine to make him uniquely qualified
to manage the tunnel construction operations on site.
He has worked as the General Superintendent on all four of the three-lane
road tunnels that have been constructed in Australia. Harry has experience
in soft-ground TBM and roadheader tunnelling, and has delivered in alliance
relationships. Harry demonstrates strong leadership and always focuses on
the education and training of his teams which keeps everyone safety
focused.

Harry provided constructability input into the tender for this twin tunnel project.
When John Holland was awarded the tender, Harry took on the crucial role of Project
General Superintendent assisting and advising all construction areas.
A key focus for Harry on this Project was Industrial Relations and Workforce management.
In this role, Harry provided constructability input into the design of 39km of toll road
including twin three-lane, 1.6km tunnels comprising two tubes, each with three lanes of
unidirectional traffic.
As General Superintendent, Harry was responsible for directing all aspects of the
underground construction activities and ensuring the highest safety standards were
achieved.

Responsible for coordinating the construction of 1.3km of 4.4. ID Drainage Tunnel using a
Herrenknecht Slurry T.B.M.
Additional responsibilities include the construction of 6 shafts, 600m of cut and cover tunnel
and associated structures.
Responsible for coordinating the construction of 20 km of sewage/stormwater tunnel,
excavated simultaneously from two sites, with four TBM’s ranging in size from 3.8-6.5m
diameter.
Additional responsibilities included the supervision of construction of 2.4km of declines and
chambers with roadheaders and the drill and blast excavation of four shafts and the
coordination of supply of all materials and spoil removal by barge to a satellite site.
Responsible for Coordinating three main sites during the construction of twin three-lane road
tunnels.
Excavation was conducted at five working faces with 300Kw road headers and drill and blast.
Primary NATM type support followed by permanent lining using three CIFA full heading
concrete lining forms.
The work consisted of the construction of a 3.2m diameter tunnel using a hard rock Robbins
TBM in fresh granite, full face grout treatment required during excavation and 360m of drill
and blast for TBM Launch Chamber
After the collapse of the Heathrow Rail tunnel, Harry was called in to recover the tunnel,
make it safe and complete its construction.
He took overall responsibility for labour and plant control to complete 8.5km of 5.7m diameter
shield driven tunnel plus two underground stations, associated shafts, hand tunnels and
crossover caverns.
