They belong to an international family of Protected Landscapes. There are 38 AONBs in England and Wales, and a further eight in Northern Ireland. For further details: www.landscapesforlife.org.uk The North Devon Coast AONB is a spectacular coastal area which covers some 66 square miles from the boundary of Exmoor National Park at Combe Martin to Marsland Mouth on the Cornish Border. The North Devon Coast was designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) in 1959, as national recognition as one of Britain’s finest landscapes. The AONB status helps to make sure our coastline is used, enjoyed and developed in a way that is sustainable and in keeping with the area’s natural beauty. The North Devon AONB is a stunning coastal area which is made up of several distinct landscape types, each with its own special habitats and geology with many of them receiving extra protection in their own right.
