CLASS SYLLABUS
YOUR ROLE AS A STUDENT

All I ask of ALL my students is to be P.R.O. (Be Prompt (on time). Be Respectful (to myself, your teacher, and
your peers). Be Organized (essential for success in anything that you do). Do those 3 things and you will be
successful in this class.
GRADING POLICY


Students will earn a grade using the scale found in the school handbook. Tests, Quizzes, Participation,
Homework, and Conduct will all have an effect on your grade. Percentages vary based upon section (check your
handbook)
Numerical grades will appear on report cards. Grading percentages for tests, quizzes, participation, and
homework will be calculated by our online grade book for a final average.
CLASSROOM RESPONSIBILITIES




CONDUCT- Students are required to adhere to all school rules: lateness to class, general behavior, cheating,
vandalism, etc., (student handbook). After numerous attempts at intervention in-class students will be referred
to administration.
DISRUPTIVE BEHAVIOR: Disruptive behavior is defined and explained by Mrs. Infurna as any action that impedes
the progression of the day’s objectives or the learning of any individual. Examples include: speaking out loud
without permission, throwing of any object, physical contact with another individual, etc.
Disruptive behavior is handled by Mrs. Infurna on an individual basis. Chronic misbehavior will lead to dismissal
from class, contact of parents, and eventual referral to school administration.
Students are encouraged to behave and act like young adults if they plan on being treated like young adults.
PARTICIPATION

All students are required to participate in class discussions and answer questions when called upon during a
lesson. This gives the student the opportunity to express their opinions about certain topics and show retention
of material. Keep in mind Participation/Effort/Conduct counts as a percentage of your grade!
PROCEDURES


Procedures are a part of life. We follow procedures for using a telephone book, boarding an airplane,
approaching a traffic light, and attending a school assembly. The reason we have procedures in life is so that
people can function in society knowing the acceptable and efficient ways other people do things.
There are also procedures in the classroom. These procedures establish our classroom culture.
TEXTBOOKS

Students are required to have their proper textbook in class each day. Students must take responsibility for
their textbooks. Textbooks must be maintained in good condition and not defaced.
o *Students will be allowed to keep their textbooks in locked cabinets w/in class if, and only if, it is
covered and their name is clearly displayed on the inside and outside cover.*

enter quietly, and remain after class to explain their tardiness.
CHRONIC LATENESS-Students are to report to class on time. Students without a proper pass will be given 2
warnings. The 3th offense will count as a cut. Three cuts and a student will receive Credit Withdrawal.

ASKING A QUESTION

Students should raise their hand whenever they have a question. Remember there is no such thing as a “stupid
question.” I may ask a student to hold on to their question for a bit if it interrupts the flow of class. Feel free to
stay after class to ask a question that is bugging you. There is always time to answer student questions.
PARTICIPATING I N CLASS DISCUSSIONS

Students should always raise their hand to speak in class, especially when involved in class discussion. Students
should never call out or try to speak over another student; it’s disrespectful and shows a lack of regard for your
peers.
TURNING IN PAPERS

A file with your class name and period will be at the side of my desk each day for assignments to be placed in. If
something is due that period, I will ask for collection at the beginning of class. It will not be accepted at the end
of the class period.
WHEN YOU ARE ABSENT

Absent students should see Mrs. Infurna before or after class upon return. I will explain what you’ve missed and
give you instruction in regards to completing missed assignments or obtaining missed notes.
o Folders will belocated in classroom with any handouts missed with your name and date on them. Quiz
and Tests will be in a RED FOLDER on my desk, with your name and date.
o Students will have 2 days to make-up missed work for every day absent.
o Students who miss a quiz and/or test are responsible for scheduling a time to make-up missed work with
Mrs. Infurna. Again, YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE.
o Tentative—School notes and/or teacher website with weekly assignments.
WHEN A SCHOOL-WIDE ANNOUNCEMENT IS MADE


When an announcement is made over the PA system students should stop what they are doing and listen
attentively.
FIRE DRILL Upon hearing the fire alarm students should stand up from their desks and approach the classroom
door. Students in the back rows should make sure all windows are closed. Students will then follow the
evacuation procedure that is outlined without talking.
WHEN YOU NEED HELP OR A CONFERENCE


Any student needing extra-help or needing a parent conference should see Mrs. Infurna before or after class to
schedule a convenient time. Remember there is always time to discuss anything that concerns you or your
parent(s) and/or guardian.
I look forward to getting to know each and every one of you. Make it a great year or not the choice is yours!!
Yours In Education,
Mrs. M. Infurna
