2015 TCB SUMMER FELLOWS
PROGRAM
Summer Fellows will have the opportunity to lead one or more summer projects addressing real business
issues, recommend solutions, and present their results. They will learn about the broad management and
economics research agendas of The Conference Board, and will also participate in Conference Board events.
The Conference Board is the world’s leading business membership organization, with a global network of
nearly 2,000 enterprises in over 50 countries. We stand at the crossroads of business and society, creating and
disseminating knowledge about management and the marketplace to help businesses strengthen their
performance and better serve society. Working as a non-profit, global, independent membership organization in
the public interest, we conduct research, convene conferences, make forecasts, assess trends, publish
information and analysis, and bring executives together to learn from one another. To learn more about the
Conference Board visit us on the web at www.conference-board.org.
The Conference Board Summer Fellows program will include three main elements:
1.
2.
3.
Core projects. With the guidance of a TCB manager, each Fellow will tackle a core project that
addresses a real issue or opportunity faced by that business unit. The project will be led by the
Fellow, who may need to draw on others across the organization for information and support.
Recommendations and conclusions from each project will be presented by the Fellow to a team of
executives. Attached are sample projects from last summer; we anticipate having similar projects in
2015.
Seminars. Summer Fellows will attend frequent seminars to learn more about The Conference
Board’s research agenda and about business in general
Participation at Conference Board Events. Along with executives from member companies, Fellows will
be invited to attend Conference Board conferences, Council meetings and webcasts. They will also
be invited to participate in TCB social events.
Most Fellows will be based at The Conference Board’s New York headquarters, and will work four-day
workweeks, generally Monday through Thursday 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The program will last for 10 weeks of
full-time engagement, beginning on June 8, 2015 through August 13, 2015. Accommodations can be made for
a slightly shorter participation, with a minimum of seven weeks worked, if necessary.
We require summer fellows to send a cover letter, resume, SAT scores and GPA. Please send via
email: carol.orenstein@conference-board.org.
SAMPLE OF PROJECTS
CEO CHALLENGE
For the past 14 years, The Conference Board has been conducting the CEO Challenge®, an annual global
survey of CEOs highlighting the issues and challenges they confront in today’s complex business environment.
The results of the CEO Challenge® Survey offer findings that inform the thinking of business leaders and their
teams. The survey results also guide The Conference Board research and program agendas, ensuring that the
knowledge we deliver to the business community and policy makers is timely and relevant. The survey is
disseminated in the fall, and project planning/survey development takes place from late spring through
summer.
CORPORATE GOVERNANCE
The summer fellow will assist the research team in completing the Institute for Sustainable Value Creation
(ISVC) “Terrain Map” (identifying the assets TCB has in this area) and analyze the data for
presentation/analysis purposes. The Fellow will also serve as a research assistant in the assessment and
development of a whitepaper and draft framework, identifying the key variables that impact Sustainable Value
Creation.
CORPORATE LEADERSHIP
The summer fellow will assist with research related to a new report that aims to study how corporate
sustainability contributes to innovation and the development of new products and services. The research will
primarily consist of identifying potential case studies and best practices by industry group, and helping define
sustainability innovation for each industry group.
HUMAN CAPITAL
The summer fellow would work on a portfolio of projects, including:
The Engagement Institute (TEI)
 Assist in TEI research activities for working group project
 Support of TEI seminars

The project will include two parts. First, the fellow will help in developing our labor market handbook, a source
document for qualitative and quantitative information on the labor market in over 50 countries. Second, the
intern will write a short report on trends in labor market institutions across country and over time.

the right place at the right time
