Key Stage 2 Autumn Term 2014 2C Miss Chance English Teacher: Miss Chance Skills students will be developing: Students will learn to recognise the initial letter sounds of a range of common words. Students will develop their predicting and sequencing skills. Students will develop their ability to combine symbols, signs and words to describe illustrations. Students will extend their vocabulary of adjectives and verbs. Brief Description of Activities: Our topics this term are books which raise issues and Fairy tales. There will be a weekly phonics session concentrating on a different letter of the alphabet each week. There will also be a weekly session based around the Oxford reading Tree reading scheme which will focus on developing key vocabulary from stage 1 of the scheme. This term we will also be looking at reading books that raise issues. During this topic the focus will be on identifying how different characters feel. We will also use these books to develop key skills such as prediction, sequencing and composing captions. In the fairy Tale topic after half term we will study the Stories of beauty and the Beast, Snow White and Rapunzel. We will use puppets and masks to re-enact the stories and again we will use the stories to develop key skills such as prediction, sequencing and composing captions. Maths Teacher: Miss Chance Skills students will be developing: Students will learn to recognise a range of basic colours. Students will develop the skill to copy and continue basic repeating patterns. Students will develop their basis numeracy skills. Students will develop their awareness of time and ability to sequence events. Students will learn to describe objects using the terms, long, short and tall. Brief Description of Activities: Our topics this term are time, measure, number and colours. In the first half of term we will have two weekly sessions where pupils will work on individually differentiated numeracy work. We will also use a range of objects to copy and continue repeating patterns and consolidate our understanding through the use of worksheets. We will do a weekly session focusing on colour recognition. In the second half of time we will develop our understanding of time through a series of practical sequencing activities followed up with a worksheet. We will compare a range of common objects using terms big, little, short, tall and long and consolidate this understanding with worksheets. ICT Teacher: Miss Chance Skills students will be developing: The ability to draw a range of lines using a basic paint package. The ability to use and name a range of basic paint tools such as fill, draw, paint and stamp. They will begin to use a paint package to draw a basic picture with adult support. They will develop the skills to drag and re-size images. They will choose images for a purpose. Brief Description of Activities: Our topic this term is Making Pictures. Students will use several basic paint packages and compare them. They will use a paint program independently and learn to change tools when they do so. With adult support students will use a range of paint tools to produce simple pictures. Students will drag and re-size images onto a power point slide to make posters. Science Teacher: Miss Chance Skills students will be developing: An understanding that electricity makes things work. The ability to differentiate between objects powered by batteries and objects powered by plugs. They will develop an understanding of how batteries are used. They will make a range of basic circuits. Brief Description of Activities: Our topics this term are electricity and magnetism Students will practise installing batteries into toys. Students will investigate how electricity is used at school and at home. Students will make shadow puppets. Students will make a range of simple circuits including a bulb, buzzer and switch. Students will identify components of a circuit and record what a circuit looks like. Students will develop their understanding of what happens when a circuit is not constructed properly or has two batteries or bulbs in it. Students will experiment with magnets to explore their properties. Students will sort objects according to whether they are attracted to a magnet. Students will predict and then test which objects will be attracted to a magnet. Students will begin to understand what materials are attracted to a magnet. History/Geography Teacher: Miss Chance Skills students will be developing: The ability to sequence familiar events. The ability to sort events into different settings. Students will celebrate key celebrations during the Autumn including Diwali, Bonfire Night, Christmas in traditional ways. They will look at the historical reasons they are celebrated. They will learn to recognise key figures from each celebration. Brief Description of Activities: Our topics this term are people who help us and staying safe. Students will use our mobility bike track on school premises to practise crossing the road. Students will develop their understanding of the concept of an emergency. Students will look at the role of the emergency services through role play and follow up worksheets. Students will learn about the phone number 999 and when to use it. Students will talk about who at home and school helps them and how. Students will begin to identify potentially dangerous situations. Students will learn how to avoid dangerous situations. Students will learn to avoid hot and sharp objects and understand how to behave around medicines.
