Card Sort Instructions Students will be given two different color index cards (teacher can select the two different desired colors). This lesson will use green and white colored index cards that have the following information on it: White cards will have one term on each card: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Global winds Convection cells Doldrums Horse latitudes Westerlies Polar easterlies Trade winds Green 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. In pairs, students will attempt to match the labels on the white cards with the descriptions on the green cards. cards will have one characteristic written on each card: Little or low wind area near equator where warm air rises. Little or low wind area where air is falling. Winds that blow from the horse latitudes toward the equator. Winds that blow from the west to the east. Winds that blow away from the poles. Produced by the movement of air between the equator and the poles. The recycling of cold, high density and high-pressure air with denser, warm, lowpressure air. The correct pairings are: Global winds- Produced by the movement of air between the equator and the poles. Convection cells- The recycling of cold, high density and high-pressure air with denser, warm, lowpressure air. Doldrums- Little or low wind area near equator where warm air rises. Horse latitudes- Little or low wind area where air is falling. Westerlies- Winds that blow from the west to the east. Polar easterlies- Winds that blow away from the poles. Trade winds- Winds that blow from the horse latitudes toward the equator. (C) Copyright 2014 - all rights reserved www.cpalms.org
