Nature of the work The RN/LPN reports directly to Dr. Richard Baverstock and Dr. Kevin Carlson as an Employee of the Alberta Bladder Centre Corporate entity, therefore this position is not affiliated Alberta Health Services. The shift schedule is 37.5 hours per week, 5 days per week on a Monday-Friday 8am – 4pm schedule with weekends and Statutory Holidays off. The key purpose of this position is to work within the multidisciplinary team to support the care of patients seen at the Centre through Assessment, Diagnosis and Treatment, within the full scope of nursing practice, as well as participate in a research role. Approximately 60% of the duties will be directly related to the clinical care of patients with lower urinary tract disorders, with one day per week dedicated to men’s pelvic health issues and 40% of the duties will relate to clinical research studies in conjunction with the Prostate Cancer Centre. The Centre seeks for this position, a RN/LPN with experience who is interested in building on their nursing education to become an expert in bladder function, lower urinary tract health and participate in clinical research studies. The Centre will provide appropriate technical training to support this specific skill set, which will include urodynamic testing, screening calls between patients and physicians; procedures such as intracavernosal injection teaching, self-catheterization teaching; patient education, involvement in research, data collection and public education related to the role of the Centre. All duties are confidential and some are of a sensitive nature. The RN/LPN will work closely with already established Registered Nurse at the Centre. The volume of work may change throughout the year, based on research needs and deadlines and the RN/LPN will work in collaboration with the schedules of the Centre, the current employed RN and Dr.’s Carlson and Baverstock, in planning vacations and time off. Potential stressors include multiple and changing priorities based on patient care needs, a high volume of telephone calls, interruptions and interaction with patients and co-workers. The ability to work in a team environment is important to the successful completion of various tasks for which this position is accountable.
