The programme aims to help you understand persisting pain and to introduce a manageable exercise programme. It will also help you to plan how to return to activities that you have stopped. Although it is not designed to cure your pain, most people report that they improve. To give us a chance to catch up and discuss your progress, there is a review after the programme (roughly at 3 months). Each group comes back together for 2 hours. Who will I see on the programme? The majority of the programme will be run by physiotherapists and physiotherapy assistants. The Programme Each group will have a maximum of 8 people There will be 6 weekly sessions 1600—1900 Monday We will notify you of any changes to this proposed timetable During the programme we plan to: Help you explore new ways of managing persisting pain Improve your confidence Help you understand why pain persists Enjoy a better quality of life Increase your general fitness ·Reduce frustration and anxiety How will we know if I have improved? At the beginning and the end of the programme we will use questionnaires and activities to measure how you are doing. What do I need to bring with me? Comfy clothes to exercise in Soft training shoes Any handouts you are given on the programme. Glasses if you use them Any medication that you would normally take during the day Let us know if: You are seen by another specialist You have changes in your general health Your situation improves and you no longer need to come. If your circumstances change and you can no longer attend. The programme content: The programme usually consists of a combination of the following activities. These are normally done both individually and in a group setting. 1. Discussions – these are an important focus of the programme and will include topics such as: How to increase activity How to exercise safely Understanding pain which persists Sleep Medication Employment advice Exploring common worries and concerns The role and limitations of investigations Plans for possible set backs How family can help Posture and lifting Leisure and recreation
