About Genesee Community College:
Genesee Community College is a public, open admission, learner-centered college. The College was founded
in 1966 and serves a 2,300 square mile region in Western New York. Core values of the college include a

6,000 full-and part-time credit students each semester and more than 10,000 continuing education students

Job Description:
SUMMARY:
As manager of the Foundation’s campaign activities, the Director develops and implements strategies for the
identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of philanthropic gifts, and the achievement of Foundation
fund raising goals. The Director recruits, coordinates, and motivates a multi-division volunteer campaign
cabinet, and collaborates with volunteer leadership in face-to-face cultivation and solicitation activities. The
Director coordinates internal campaign management processes. The Director provides in-person cultivation
and solicitation of key prospective donors, and maintains a cultivation/stewardship portfolio of 40-50 donors as
assigned.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Develops a strategic plan of action for the campaign and, in consultation with the Executive Director and
volunteer leadership, establishes campaign/divisional goals and the campaign calendar.
2. Coordinates the cultivation and recruitment of campaign leadership, and assists division chairs in identifying
and recruiting captains and team leaders.
3. Using the Foundation’s information systems and external sources, identifies and classifies campaign
prospects.
4. Develops cultivation and solicitation schedules; identifies, recruits, and mobilizes volunteers for campaign
calls in collaboration with volunteer leadership; and provides staff support as needed.
5. Manages annual campaign operations and activities.
6. Coordinates the orientation and training of leadership and volunteers, and mentors volunteers with
solicitation support as necessary.
7. Personally seeks philanthropic support from lead prospects, and selected other individuals and
organizations.
8. Plans and coordinates telephone, mail and online solicitation activities as appropriate.
9. Coordinates the promotion of the campaign to the College’s constituencies and the general public.
10. Plans and coordinates campaign events, such as division kickoffs and donor events.
11. Tracks calls and contacts on the Foundation’s computerized information system.
12. Using the Foundation’s information system, monitors campaign progress and prepares analytical reports.
13. Assists in the cultivation and solicitation of major and planned gifts as appropriate, including Heritage gifts,
partnership gifts, bequests, foundation grants, and gift annuities.
14. Coordinates stewardship activities, including donor communication, endowment and named fund reporting,
recognition, and various on-campus and campus center donor events.
15. Solicits annual scholarship and grant budget requests, and provides guidance to College staff and
scholarship committees as appropriate.
16. Collaborates with the Foundation’s alumni affairs officer on the design and implementation of alumni fund
raising activities.
17. Represents the Foundation at events in the absence of the Executive Director
Requirements:
A. Education: Bachelor’s Degree required. Master’s Degree preferred.
B. Experience: Minimum of three (3) years successful professional experience in a significant leadership
position within a not-for-profit organization, which includes experience in successfully managing the efforts of
volunteers and/or planning and implementing fund raising initiatives. Preferred experience includes a minimum
of three (3) years successful fund development experience, ideally including the planning and implementation
of campaigns. Familiarity with community college mission and programs is ideal.
C. Special Skills: Energetic self-starter. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated ability to motivate and
foster long-term relationships with diverse, highly astute volunteers and donors, including a significant number
of supporters with business and professional backgrounds. Assertive, goal-oriented approach to the cultivation
and solicitation of gifts, using disciplined, data-informed solicitation strategies. Word processing and relational
database literacy. Strong commitment to the ideals of philanthropy, and an ability to represent Genesee
Community College with vigor, warmth, and passion. Familiarity with the Genesee-Livingston-OrleansWyoming region is a strong plus. Must be able to demonstrate a commitment to diversity.
Additional Information:
EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time professional position (Foundation Grade IV or V). The position requires
some evening and weekend duties.
COMPENSATION: Based on experience. Standard Foundation benefits.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: Position reports to Director of Development and External Affairs/Foundation
Executive Director. Position staffs one or more standing committees of the Board of Directors, the annual
campaign cabinet, and ad-hoc committees.
CODE OF ETHICS: The Director, Annual Fund is responsible for observing the Code of Ethics of the
Association of Fundraising Professionals.
