CLASS TITLE: ENERGY MANAGEMENT CONTROL SYSTEM OPERATOR
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is work monitoring, making corrective adjustments to and operating a computerized Energy
Management Control System (E.M.C.S.) for multiple office building sites.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

Monitors temperature environment trends and establishes optional energy output and usage
by load-shedding available power to building sites during peak demand times.
Operates and monitors the operation of computerized heating, ventilation and air conditioning
system components and associated peripheral equipment.
Operates a computer controlled monitoring system to insure proper building temperature and
environment and effective utilization of equipment.
Observes and adjusts control systems from heating, ventilation and air conditioning (H.V.A.C.)
spool data received from each building location.
Monitors log report printer to determine and react to run times, temperature profiles, energy
consumption trends and other data.
Reads and analyzes trend logs for each building and building system and reacts in a positive
manner to curb or eliminate substantial deviations in energy consumption.
Monitors alarm printer to determine source and type of alarm and reacts to same.
Analyzes computer readouts from C.R.T. display and printouts in order to make appropriate
adjustments to system or to make program changes in building environment.
After power failures occur, incumbent monitors and assures that equipment is restarted in
proper sequence to preclude excessive demand on electrical systems.
Keeps operational and trend logs up-to-date, noting man-hours worked, operational trends and
changes in energy consumption, equipment or power failures causing downtime and related
maintenance time denoting changes in building temperature.
Coordinates maintenance activities by ensuring that proper supervisors, skilled tradesmen
and/or technicians are contacted regarding maintenance needs.

Makes emergency decisions affecting systems operation and/or shutdown.
Prepares daily, weekly or monthly schedules and/or reports based on operating conditions and
requirements.
Performs necessary paper work relating to operation of the system.
Operates all components of the computerized system and peripheral equipment.
Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of the principles and techniques of operating or maintaining heating or refrigeration
equipment or electrically powered utilities.
Knowledge of inspection and monitoring techniques.
Ability to monitor temperature environment trends.
Ability to operate and monitor computerized heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Ability to utilize problem solving techniques.
Ability to read and analyze trend logs in order to curb or eliminate deviations in energy
consumption.
Ability to review and evaluate data.
Ability to coordinate maintenance activities.
Ability to prepare and maintain various logs, schedules and reports.
Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments.
Ability to communicate effectively.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS


Three years of experience in the operation or maintenance of heating or air conditioning
equipment or electrically powered utilities.
Vocational/technical training in air conditioning and refrigeration, industrial electricity or
electronics can substitute
