Greenwood Elementary School
November 13, 2012

Technology Presentation:
Visual presentation of a Trailer of Technology with Greenwood students
Revisit Technology curriculum to be in line with the direct goals of the district. Creating
a large toolbox to draw from with a number of applications such as Moodle Acct.,
Google Apps., PowerPoint, Solom6, Photo Booth, Comic Life, imovies, Garage Band
and more. Goal is to build a tech Savvy kid! Digital Citizenship is taught. Students
sign a code of ethics; learn about online bullying and Internet safety.
Districts “My Way” program rolls out in January
Feb 7th, 8:30am, Mr. Dave Zukor will present a Parent Technology Seminar

minutes approved by general consensus.

Visual presentation of new gym
Targets on the gym wall will be painted on
Marquee Bear Banner hung from the gym ceiling, symbols sense of identity, school pride
World wall signs will be Velcro and are interchangeable
Gym floor logo will be done similar to Kimberly Lane, a lasting investment
Discussion of the boundary process, Wayzata school board meeting tonight
Expect announcements of final changes by 2nd week of December
The best way to access MOODLE is to log in with your child using their password,
which they should share. Teachers also have the password and can share it to parents if
necessary. In the near future, we are looking at developing a parent role that would allow
parents to log in with their own account information. They would be tied to their children
and would be able to see their classes and grades. We are hoping to have this set up for
January but we don’t have a defined timeline yet.

Thanked all chair people who helped with the carnival
New this year was opening the door at 5:00 for students with special needs, many have
never been able to attend before. A very positive response from parents & teachers
We gave out more ticket scholarships this year with $10.00 ticket packets
8,253 Box Tops were turned in for $825.00 worth in tickets
Net profit about $15,000
Need Carnival Chairs for next year to take Grace Lephart & Stephanie Schon chair

Open discussion of usage of PTA Funds
5th grade teachers asked questions about how decisions are made for PTA funding
Questions of why the district is no longer allowing PTA funds to be used for technology
(iPads, Computer on Wheels [laptops], etc.).
Discussion of using some funds for possible new style coat hooks for students
Majority of PTA members present voted yes and the gym signage budget was passed
Mention of possible discussion additional fundraisers that don’t require a lot of work and
will bring in additional funds to Greenwood. Such as Gregor Farms Medina hosting a
GW 10 day planting sale beginning of May and they write a check to us for 15% of all
GW sales and maybe addition of Mabel’s Labels added to May preorder for Fall School
Supply Box also a % of all sales goes directly to GW
We are in need of a chairperson(s) for Family Bingo Night. This fun filled family event
is held on Friday, March 1 at 6:30pm
Staff Appreciation Luncheon is November 27th we need volunteers to bring food to help
support our Greenwood Teachers and staff, online signup genius
Next PTA meeting is Jan. 8th at 9:30 am with guest speaker Susan Sommerfeld, West
Middle School Principal. 5th grade parents are encouraged to attend Ms. Sommerfeld’s
presentation on Transitioning to Middle School which will begin at 10:15am
Also the next evening PTA meeting will be March 19th at 6:30 pm

Carnival Chairs Grace Lephart & Stephanie Schon for doing a terrific job organizing the
entire Fall Carnival from start to finish & being amazing leads to all chair persons that
helped make this another successful fundraiser for GW
Media Specialist Linda Gibbons for letting the PTA use the Media Center for our
meetings
