Marketing Internship
The Minnesota State University Athletic Department will be offering 10 Sport Marketing, 1 Special Events,
and 1 Summer 2015 Marketing internship positions for the 2015-16 year for a total of 12 (twelve) internship
positions. Athletic Department sports marketing internships focus on the objectives listed below. All interns
will work directly with Athletic Department’s Assistant Athletic Director for External Operations, Director of
Marketing & Special Events and the Marketing and Promotions Graduate Assistants.
Marketing
1) Promoting MSU Athletic Events
a. Construct and implement marketing promotions and initiatives to enhance event attendance
and atmosphere.
b. Assist with fulfillment of sponsorships
c. Plan and execute major events including Easter Egg Hunt with the Mavericks, Hoops Fest, and
Stomper’s Birthday Party
d. Use your creativity to create flyers, make posters, and put together group nights or special
events. Examples include bringing a little league out to a baseball game or putting together a
Mascot night for one of our basketball games.
2) Game Management
a. Required attendance at select MSU Football, Basketball (men’s & women’s), Volleyball,
Wrestling, Soccer, Hockey (men’s & women’s), Baseball and Softball games.
b. Play event music to enhance the fan experience; sell tickets at certain events
c. Create a fun atmosphere for the fans by implementing promotions
d. Coordinate band and cheer teams, National Anthem singers, and other duties as assigned
3) Student Rewards & Fast Pass
a. Assist with coordination of all activities for the Student Rewards program including
membership, recruitment, promotion of the club, maintenance of database, and distribution
of materials
b. Distribution of Hockey Fast Pass tickets and general student hockey tickets
Special Events
1) Assist with preparation and management of the following Athletic Department Special Events:
a. Student Athlete Challenge
b. Maverick Hoops Fest
c. Big Bobber Ice Fishing Contest
d. Maverick Mini Mile
Summer
1) Summer Orientation
a. Present on behalf of MSU Athletics at the orientation’s informational session
b. Set up booth to sell Fast Pass & Student Rewards to incoming freshman and transfers
2) Maverick Athletics Coupon Book
a. Sell coupon/ad space to area business for the Maverick Athletics Coupon Book which is
distributed in the fall
3) Golf Classics
a. Assist with the preparation and management of MSU Athletics Golf Classics (three) throughout
the summer months
Minnesota State University Athletics
Operations Internship
The Minnesota State University Athletics Department will be offering 6 to 8 operations/event management
internship positions for the upcoming 2014-15 school year. Athletic Department Operations internships
focus on the objectives listed below. All interns will work directly with Athletic Department’s Director of
Operations and the Event Management/ Concessions Graduate Assistants.
Game Day Event Management
1. Report to and assist Event Management Graduate Assistant with game-day operations
2. Prep and setup duties on day of events
3. Crowd and game management at events
4. Cleanup and teardown following events
5. Responsibilities not limited to this list
Concessions
1. Report to and assist Concessions Management Graduate Assistant with concessions operations
2. Provide excellent customer service to patrons
3. Inventory control on day of event
4. May be asked to work events without Graduate Assistant
5. Responsibilities not limited to this list
Ticket Operations
1. Hockey and basketball season ticket renewals
2. Organization of new ticket inventory
3. Distribution of season tickets
4. Game day ticket office manager at many different events
5. Balance ticket trays following end of ticket sales
Specialty Positions
1. Women’s Hockey Game-Day Operations Coordinator
2. Visiting Football Team Liaison
3. Basketball Scorer’s Staff
*Interns will also be responsible for other office duties assigned during the school year.
**Specific positions will be determined following interviews.
Hours each will range from 5-25 hours/week based on the athletic home events scheduled during that time.
Intern will be responsible for other office duties as assigned. For example, Hockey Fast Pass tickets, season
ticket renewals, proof of schedule cards and posters, Chuck-A-Puck sorting, front desk coverage, posting Toilet
Tribunes, helping organize the Marketing & Promotions closet, etc.
There will be an informational meeting on Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at 5:30pm in the Johnson Alumni Room in
the Taylor Center Hall of Champions. This is the room behind the glass windows in Taylor Center.

The Maverick Sports Marketing Internship is a yearlong commitment of time, energy, and effort. This
includes regular attendance at meetings, office hours and Mavericks sporting events. Your signature
