May 18, 2015 In Attendance Donna Jane Pat Michele Von Karsten Evelyn Rebecca Ming Ishwor Wayne Ranga Call to Order Review of Minutes – under revision from last meeting / adding map as an attachment Approval of Agenda – yes Lease/Garden Rules – Proposed lease renewal (for 3 years) from the town received. They have asked for some revisions of the garden rules. (Revisions are in red) Revisions were reviewed / revised as recommended. Rain Barrels – There has been an executive decision by Steve Dickinson which is Rebecca’s suggestion of the upside down umbrella things (rain saucers). Location of barrel and width of rain saucer has to be determined. Suggest we try one to see how it works. Although being a strong proponent of rainwater use, Karsten advices against use of any saucer because its disadvantages far outweigh its advantages; we should not waste any more time and money if current gutter solution is unacceptable and Town does not help provide an acceptable gutter solution. Shed/storage/lights – Rebecca and Von completely cleaned out the main shed!. More lighting needed. Jane to order 4 of the Mr. Beams MB 530 Battery-Operated Indoor/Outdoor Motion-Sensing LEDs. Please DO NOT PLACE ANYTHING ON THE FLOOR by the tool barrels. Paper/Cardboard – Is there a plan to use the paper & cardboard in the open shed? Can Barbara pick up the pot collection and take to Lowe’s for recycling? Jane to check. Jane to store cardboard in her garage until needed. The new cultivator is now broken. 2 other cultivators in the open shed & large tiller in the town shed (Jane to ask Barbara to take to Cary Mower & Saw for evaluation). Jane to take new cultivator back to Lowe’s for fix. Barbara will take the Tiller & last year’s cultivator & Mantis to Cary Mower & Saw for evaluation. $90 to evaluate. Email to board to make decision once the expense estimate is known. Always clean tools prior to storing them in order to prevent corrosion and extend their lifetimes. Suggestion was made to use shredded paper + the hay on top once the plants are several inches tall to increase water retention. Beds/Management/Setup – Wayne to add 3 additional beds to the map. Need to make sure that each bed is planted. Some items on the wish list still remain to be planted. Wayne advised that the persimmon tree should be in soon. Composting – Please be sure to use our own compost when adding amending garden soil …make sure you check soil, prior to watering. Note which beds have been watered in the log. Gate – Need to attach hinges or wheels to allow better movement. Communications – No new items for communications. Treasury Report – Reported bank balance / bills paid / membership dues collected.
