WHO CAN REFER FOR SERVICES?
Medicare Rebates are available for Children and Adolescents referred by their:
 General Practitioners through an Chronic Disease Management (CDM) Plan (30 minute sessions)
 General Practitioner through Mental Health Care Plan for Psychology services only if the
child has an assessed mental health issue.
 Private Clients do not need a referral.
 Families with Private Health Insurance may be eligible for Rebates through their health fund
REFERRALS FOR SPECIALIST AUTISM/PDD SERVICES
Paediatrician/Psychiatrist referral for Autism/Pervasive Developmental Disorder Therapy for children under 15
years.
WHAT IS AUTISM?
Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) are lifelong developmental disabilities characterised by marked difficulties
in social interaction, impaired communication, restricted and repetitive interests and behaviours and sensory
sensitivities.
The word ‘spectrum’ is used because the range and severity of the difficulties people with an ASD experience
can vary widely. ASDs include autistic disorder, Asperger’s Disorder and Pervasive Developmental Disorder.
ASD is usually diagnosed in early childhood, but assessments can be undertaken at any age.
ASD is diagnosed through an assessment which includes observing and meeting with the individual and their
family. Information is gathered regarding the individual’s strengths and difficulties. Intalink Therapy Solutions
works with parents during the development of individual therapy plans which
may include:
 Initial Screening Assessment and Treatment Plan by our Paediatric Team
 Individual or Combined Therapy Sessions with an Occupational Therapist and/or Speech Pathologist
 Off Site Individual Therapy Sessions
 Child and Parent/Family Psychology Sessions
 Progress Assessment with an individual Therapist or with our Paediatric Team
 Consultations, Meetings and/or Case Planning with extended family, Pre-school/childcare
staff/teachers
