KIRKWOOD MERIT SYSTEM
Adapted for Piedmont Carolinas Chapter
The purpose of the Kirkwood Merit System is to encourage chapter member participation. Points
will be collected for Piedmont Carolinas AACN Yearly NTI Scholarships on the basis of points
earned.
I.
General Information
A. All funds awarded from the Piedmont Carolinas Chapter AACN are awarded only to
chapter members and are non-transferrable between chapter members. The applicant
must have been a National and Local member for minimum of 1 fiscal year prior to
receiving funds.
B.
The purpose of the Merit System for the Piedmont Carolinas Chapter AACN is to
provide an objective method in awarding the chapter’s NTI scholarships. The chapter
has previously established 3 $750 NTI scholarships for chapter members. The
implementation of this system will assist with determing an improved objective
method for determing the recipients for the scholarships.
C.
The purpose of the NTI Chapter Scholarship is to recognize active members of the
chapter who wish to pursue their profession and are active with the local chapter.
II.
Guidelines
A. Points may be accrued for 1 fiscal year only.
1. Points will be redeemed during the fiscal year for the NTI scholarship (time
designated yearly by the chapter board).
2. All points are removed after the awarding of the NTI scholarships each year and
prepared for next fiscal year with zero ending balance.
3. The fiscal year is July 1 through June 30.
B. Designated board member will be responsible for maintaining merit system data base
per board vote at yearly transition meeting.
III.
Point Redemption
A.
The point system is used for determining the chapter’s NTI scholarship winners only.
The chapter awards three $750 scholarships towards attending NTI and the winners
will be the three people with the highest points – one will be a member, one will be a
board member and the third will be the next highest points person (board or member).
B.
All members who want to be considered for the NTI scholarship based on the Merit
System must still apply for the NTI scholarship using the attached form. Members
who don’t submit this form will not be considered for the scholarship.
C.
Each top points winner has the option to decline the scholarship and then it will be
offered to the next highest points member (of same category – board member defers to
the next highest point board member and same for regular chapter member). If a
winner declines, they are still eligible for the merit system the following year.
D.
The winners will take one year off after receiving the scholarship before being eligible
to re-enter into the Merit System for reconsideration for the NTI scholarship.
