Game Ideas Bazinga- (board came from pinterest) Split the class into several teams. Use the Bazinga Board power point to run the game. Directions are on slide two of the power point. Use EOCT review questions that can be asked and answered verbally in order to only use one power point. Board games- Add a stack of task cards with EOCT questions to the game. Students draw a card and answer in order to “earn” a turn. They only take their turn if the answer is correct. Back and Across- for reading passages. Class is split into 5-6 teams. Each team has a “station” equal distance from the teacher. (Preferably this game would be played outside.) One student from each team runs to get their reading passage. When they are released to run, the timer begins. They get three minutes as a team with their text. Then, one student at a time runs to the teacher to get an EOCT question about the reading printed on a slip. They must run back to the team before choosing an answer and can consult with the team. A different student runs back to the teacher with the question, answered, for her to check. If correct, they get the next question. If incorrect, they try again. The first team to have all questions correctly answered wins the round. Each round uses a different reading passage. Snow Ball Fight- Have many pieces of paper with 1 EOCT question on each, preferably ones that do not have a reading passage. Questions can be printed from our classroom printers on regular notebook paper as is crumples more easily. You or students crumple the paper into balls. Split the class into two teams and allow them to throw the balls at one another for 1 minute. After the minute, everyone freezes. Use a randomizer site to call on a random student. If he or she does not have a snow ball, the team loses a point. If he or she does have a snowball, he or she opens the paper, reads the question aloud, and attempts to answer. If he/she can answer on his/her own and gets it correct, the team earns 5 points. If they need to consult with the team and get it correct, the team earns 1 point. If they get it wrong, no points are added. Next, allow snow ball fighting for another minute and repeat the whole process. Grammar Legos- Teams are given an envelope with several large words and punctuation marks cut up and laminated (colored paper. You can color code the parts of speech if you want to). Each round, teams are told to “build” something, i.e. a certain kind of clause or phrase, a sentence type, etc. The first team to correctly build what was asked for wins the round and is rewarded points. Go through as many rounds as possible in the time allotted for review. Grudge Ball- (found this idea on pinterest) 1. Each team gets 10 "X's". They are just drawn on the board under that team’s name or number. 2. Split your class into 5 or 6 teams, depending on how fast you want the game to go. 3. Each group gets a question. If they get it right they automatically get to erase two X's from the board. They can take it from one team or split it. They can not commit suicide (take X's from themselves). 4. Before they take off these X's, though, they have a chance to increase their ability to get the other teams to hate them. They get to shoot the a ball and try to get it in a hoop, basket, trashcan, etc. Use masking tape to mark off lines on the floor from different distances. I have also used bean bags and had a target mapped out on the floor. 5. If they shoot from the closer line and get it in, they can take two more X's off the board. If they go from the longer distance, and make it in, they can take four off the board. If they don't make it they still get to take the original two off the board. * When a team is knocked off, they still participate when it is their turn. To get back on the board they need to get the question right and make the basket. If they do this they can earn two or four X's back on the board (depending on from where they shoot). This allows them to stay involved, take part in the review, and not shut down
