GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS 2016
1. The show is open to the following school districts; Allen ISD, Anna ISD, Blue Ridge ISD, Celina
ISD, Community ISD, Farmersville ISD, Frisco ISD, Lovejoy ISD, McKinney ISD, Melissa ISD,
Plano ISD, Princeton ISD, Prosper ISD, Royse City ISD, and Wylie ISD, or who resides in Collin
County and attends a private school outside of Collin County that is at least 8 years old or in the
3rd grade and a member of the FFA or Jr. FFA, or 4-H Club in Collin County and in good standing
with Texas FFA and Texas 4-H. Entries must be made on an official Collin County Junior
Livestock Show disk. Exhibitors D.O.B. will be put on the entries by the AST or CEA.
2. Ownership and custody of animal will be by the students and immediate family from validation to
sale day under the direct supervision of AST or CEA at the Project Center, home or leased
housing for the animal.
3. Any exhibitor caught in violation of ownership Rule #2 will forever be barred from the Collin
County Jr. Livestock Show
4. All exhibitors will be under the control of the General Superintendent.
5. Any individual not complying with the rules and regulations set up in this catalog will forfeit all
awards presented at the show.
6. The decision of the judge will be final. Any exhibitor who shows disrespect to the judge will be
promptly disqualified.
7. Only exhibitors and authorized persons will be allowed in the show ring during the showing of
animals. This is to include selection of Sale Order and classification areas. Parent or alternate
can hold animal in sale order if exhibitor has multiples, if said animal makes it to front line for
selection then an exhibitor must be present to show that animal.
8. The Collin County Livestock Show Association or any show official will not be liable for any
damages, fire, theft, or accident during the show.
9. The rules and regulations of the Livestock Sanitary Commission of Texas will be in effect. Collin
County Livestock Show reserves the right to consult a veterinarian to determine if an animal is
healthy or unhealthy and if deemed so, the determined animal(s) shall be removed from show
grounds. Show vet is Dr. Bing of Van Alstyne Vet Clinic.
10. Aisles and alleys in the barn are to be kept clean and open at all times. Clipping and fitting should
be done outside the barn, with the exception of sheep and goats.
11. Exhibitors will be required to furnish feed and care for their animals during the show
12. Tie space and pens will be assigned by the General Superintendent and the Superintendent of
each division.
13. Night Curfew: Lights in the barn will be turned off at 12am each night, and will remain off until
5am. Curfew goes into effect at that time; person(s) will not be permitted to stay on grounds.
14. All breeding animals must be owned 6 weeks prior to the show. Animal papers will be checked.
Exhibitors must own breeding rabbits 6 weeks prior to show. All breeding animals DOB’s are
required on entries when it is turned in or it will not be accepted
15. AWARDS
 Awards for each division will be determined by the Awards Superintendent and the
Awards Committee.

17. Entries along with proper entry fees must be in hand of the Show Treasurer no later than the
December 14, 2015. All entries must be made by the CEA or AST for each club or chapter. Late
entries will be accepted by paying double entry fees by January 1, 2016 provided that stall space
is available. Late entries may not be accepted at the show. Shop and Horticulture entries are
exempt from the January 1st deadline. THE AG TEACHER OR COUNTY AGENT IS
RESPONSIBLE FOR SEEING THAT ENTRIES ARE FILLED OUT PROPERLY.
18. STEERS, MARKET SHEEP, MARKET GOATS, MARKET SWINE, MARKET BROILERS and
FRYERS must be validated on or before the designated date to show and sale. NO LATE
VALDATIONS PERMITTED. Validation of market animals in siblings’ names, if the exhibitors are
in the same immediate household, will be allowed. Validation will consist of tagging and nose
printing for Goats, Lambs, and Cattle and tagging or tattooing for Rabbits and Hogs. THE
MARKET ANIMAL MUST BE ENTERED BY ONLY ONE EXHIBITOR. Student may enter an
unlimited number of market animals, but may only show two (2) market steers, goats, swine,
fryers, broilers and market lambs.
19. A Ribbon Auction will be held Saturday for market animals, shop project, or horticulture project for
division. An exhibitor can sell one lot in the Ribbon Auction with the exception of: (1) The overall
Grand and Reserve Grand of a specie, (2) Champion/Reserve Champion Horticulture, (3)
Champion/ Reserve Champion Shop Project.
20. All Breed and Reserve Champions MUST SELL, unless one exhibitor owns more than 1 Breed
or Reserve Breed Champion in a division. All first place winners from each division are eligible
for sale.

21. Add on bids are welcome to the sale of Market Animals any time after the sale of such animal(s).
All add-ons must be done through the Sale Office and will not be announced by auctioneer.
22. All animals must be shown by the exhibitor. Exception to this rule include:
 The student has 2 animals in the same class
 Health reasons that have been cleared through the Show Superintendent.
 Other school sponsored activities.
23. Animals will be admitted to the grounds according to the unloading schedule. All animals must be
in place by the times designated in the unloading schedule. Breeding animals and animals not
making sale will be released at the conclusion of the show. All livestock has to be removed from
the Meyers Event Center by Saturday night at 10 pm. A fine will be given to Chapter or Club of
$100.00 per animal left after 10pm Saturday and banish exhibitor, if not a senior, for 1 year from
showing any animal at the Collin County Livestock show.
24. Swine will be weighed-in Monday upon arrival. Lambs and Goats will be weighed directly
following the fungus check. Steers and commercial Heifers will be weighed-in on Thursday at
7:00pm.
25. All protest must be in writing and be accompanied by a deposit of $150.00, which will be forfeited
if protest is not sustained. Such protest must state plainly the cause of complaint or appeal, and
must be delivered to the livestock show management immediately after occasion for such protest.
Protests will be accepted prior to judging or immediately at conclusion of judging. The decision of
the General Superintendent and Division Committee is final.
26. Junior and Senior Showmanship list will be determined by sign-up. The exhibitor must own the
animal that they are showing for showmanship. Senior Showmanship age will be determined as
14 years and older and under 14 will be considered a junior showmanship contestant. The age
will be determined at date of show entry.
27. If an animal is taken or pulled out of the Sale Order more than 30 minutes after the Sale Order
has been picked, the student owning said animal/s will be banned from next year’s Collin County
Junior Livestock Show.
28. Exhibitors making auction will not be allowed to have another person in the ring with them, with
the exception of Champion and Reserve Champion exhibitors who will be allowed to have other
exhibitors in the ring to hold awards, animals/exhibitors that are to be present cannot have décor
on them of any sort; this includes and is not limited to bows, signs, paint, hats, etc…
29. No alcoholic beverages will be permitted on Meyers Event Center property.
30. The No Pass / No Play Rules will be in effect to comply with UIL guidelines.
31. All market animals are eligible for Auction if selected by the judge during the selection of Sale
Order, with the exception of market swine (See Rule #1 Market Swine)
32. An Auction is defined as: Each Auction qualifier will receive the amount of the bid price less the
cost of the sale picture.
33. Collin County Junior Livestock Show is a Ribbon Auction Sale for Steers, Market Goats, Market
Sheep, Poultry, Rabbits, Swine, Horticulture Projects, and Shop Projects.
34. General rules are effective for 2 years unless by unanimous vote to correct an egregious mistake.
35. All display and tack must be in place no later than 10p.m. Monday night.
36. Cattle MUST be in place by 6pm Thursday
37. Any exhibitor, group, or party that disrupts the show or sale will be removed by security and
barred from future participation in the Collin County Livestock Show.
38. An exhibitor must participate in the selection of Sale Order. If they do not participate in Sale Order
they will be barred from the show the next year.
39. Champion and Reserve Champion maybe removed from Meyers Event Center, the owner must
secure a suitable replacement, same species and breed that will remain at Meyers Event Center.
40. The Collin County Junior Livestock show reserves to the elected show officers the final and
absolute right to interpret these rules and regulations and to determine and settle all matters,
questions, and differences in regard to the exhibit, exhibitor and/or the Junior Livestock Show.
41. No alternates will be selected for sale order.
42. DNA Testing may be conducted for all Champions.
43. All forfeited awards/cash/prizes etc… will become the property of CCJLA.
44. The decision of the classifier’s is final.
45. Students/Parents seen soliciting Buyers during the sale will forfeit sale and be banned for the
next show year
46. Sale may be taped- Chapters or Clubs whose members violate rule 28 will be fined $100.00 per
violation. Due before entry deadline of the following year or entries will not be accepted.
47. There will be a processing fee of $5 for add-ons requiring more than one attempt to collect.
The Exhibitor will not receive any sale money until all funds are collected or after the second
attempt to collect has been made. If a processing fee is required it will be deducted from their
sale check. There will be no more than 2 attempts made to collect any add-ons.
48. All animals shown at CCJLA will be shown according to state validation rules.
49. CCJLSA will provide a sale sheet after the completion of each species for the ag teachers
and 4H leader before the sale order is printed. Any corrections should be made
immediately. It is the Ag Teacher/4-H Leaders responsibility to alert the show secretary to
any errors.
Commercial Exhibit Rules
1. The commercial exhibitor shall in no way exhibit or offer for sale any food for human consumption or
confectionery which could be in direct competition with the Junior Livestock Show concession stand.
2. The commercial exhibit area will be designated by the show superintendent and Youth Park manager.
The exhibitor will be charged $100.00 per day. The check needs to be made payable to: Myers Park
and Event Center.
3. The commercial exhibitor will be set up for business by 10:00 am January 05, 2016, and remain open
until 6:00 pm. The exhibit will be open for business each day thereafter from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
except Saturday, when the hours will be from 8:00 am until Premium Sale begins.
4. Electricity will be available for commercial exhibitor on a limited basis. The exhibitor will have to
provide any extension cord and/or lights necessary for his or her exhibit.
Swine Division
Superintendent: Stevie Horton
Assistant: John Anderson and John Jackson
Cordless Clippers will be allowed with no snaring at any time.
1. The swine show will show both barrows and gilts together.
2. Market Swine weigh-in and classifying: Monday, arrival schedule will be sent to AST/4-H Agent.
3. Qualifying weight range for Swine: 100-300 pounds, with 5 pound tolerance at both ends.
4. Swine will be divided into equal classes after weights are turned in.
5. Limited to two (2) entries per exhibitor.
6. Swine will be classified into one of the six breed classes.
 White OPB
 Black OPB
 Duroc
 Hampshire
 York
 Cross
7. Hog must place in the top 33% of their respective classes to be eligible for the premium sale, with
the exception of the class where the breed champion or reserve breed champion is selected. In
those classes we will sell 33% excluding the breed or reserve breed champion. In other words no
one rolls in when animal is pulled from sale.
8. At the conclusion of the sift each School/Club will be presented with “One” print out of their
entries. All Changes will be made on this form and turned in to the show office within 30 minutes.

Steer Division

Weighing of Steers–Thursday, 7:00 pm
Cattle MUST be in place by 6pm Thursday
1. Steers will divide into classes with as equal weight as possible.
2. This show is a blow and show
3. Steers will be classified by the steer classifying committee, selected by the superintendent prior to
the time of weighing.
4. The final decision in determining the breed the steer will show in is up to the steer classifying
committee and all decisions are final.
5. Any questions, other than classifying, will come under the form of an Official Protest to the
General Superintendent as outlined in the General Rules.
6. Breed of steers:

American Breeds and their crosses (Brahman, Brangus, Santa Gertrudis)- should have
predominant Bosindicus characteristics

English Breeds (Angus, Hereford, Shorthorn, Polled Hereford, Red Angus)

Exotic and their Crosses (Limousine, Simmental, Maine-Anjou, Chianina, Charolais, etc.)
7. Sale Order will be determined by the judge, no alternates will be selected.
8. Grand Champion Steer will be the first to sale. Reserve Champion Steer will be second, then
Breed Champions and Reserve Breed Champions will be selected for sale and then all remaining
steers will be placed in order to be selected by judge for Sale Order.
9. There must be more than 6 steers in a breed for the Champion and Reserve Champion in that
breed to automatically be placed in the sale.
10. If a breed has 6 head or less, then the Champion and Reserve Champion must be selected for
sale among the group of placing steers by the judge.
11. All display and tack must be in place not later than 10 p.m. Tuesday night.
12. 33% of Steers will qualify for the Ribbon Auction excluding the Breed and Reserve Breed
Champions.
13. All ear tags shall be removed except for State or County Validation Tags.
14. A minimum weight of 900 pounds is required.
15. Showmanship will follow the selection of sale order.
Breeding Beef Division
Superintendent: Barry Parks

Cattle MUST be in place by 6pm Thursday
Beef masters, Grey Brahman, Red Brahman, Brangus, Santa Gertrudis, Simbrah, Other American
Registered Breeds, Angus, Red Angus, Hereford, Polled Hereford, Shorthorn, Charolais, Limousin,
Maine-Anjou, Simmental, Chianina, Other Registered Breeds, and Commercial Heifers.
Heifer Papers will be checked
This is a blow and show heifer show
1. All breeds will show by age with the exception of Commercial Heifers that will be shown by weight
and must be weighed immediately following steer weigh-in.
2. Beef cattle class will consist of the following:

Heifers Calved April 1 and after 2015

Heifers Calved Jan 01 - March 30, 2015

Heifers Calved Oct. 01 - Dec. 31, 2014

Heifers Calved July 01 - Sept. 30, 2014

Heifers Calved April 01 - June 30, 2014

3. The beef cattle superintendent and his assistants have the authority to request the verification of
age of any animal that they feel is entered in the wrong class, anytime up to the judging of the
animal’s class in the show ring.
4. Original Registration papers will be required and checked.
5. Any other questions concerning the age of the animals outside of the superintendent must come
under the official protest order in the general rules.
6. The final decision determining the class and breed the animal shows in is in the hands of the
superintendent of the Breeding Beef Cattle, and the decision of the superintendent will be final.
7. Division Champions and Reserve Champions awards for American Division, British Division and
Exotic Division (Commercial heifers are included with Exotic).
8. Papers will be checked from 6-8am Friday and commercial heifers will weigh with steers
beginning at 7pm on Thursday.
9. Division Champions will receive a premium of $300 and Reserve Division Champions will receive
a premium of $150.
10. A Supreme and Reserve Supreme Overall Heifer will be selected from division Champions.
11. If a heifer gets loose a second time in the show ring they are removed from the competition, class
specific.
12. The ring superintendent has the authority to dismiss unruly animals
13. All display and tack must be in place not later than 10 p.m. Monday night.
Goat Division
Superintendent: Larry Lambert
Assistant: Hoppy Thetford
1. All market goats must be state validated.
2. All Breeding Goats must have a copy of registration papers with them at weigh-in. All Breeding
Goats must be clean and show presentable at time of show.
3. All commercial goats entered in the breeding show must have a state validation tag, and the
registered goats must have a tattoo.
4. Breeding Boer Goats: Percentage/ Pure Breeds and Commercial classes will be:
Class 1: 0-6 months
Class 2: 6-9 months
Class 3: 9-12 months
Class 4: 12-18 months
Class 5: 18-24 months
Class 6: 24-36 months
Class 7: over 36 months

It takes 2 animals of any age to make a class. If only one animal shows for a class, that
one animal will show in the next older class.
5. Market Goats
Limited 2 entries per exhibitor
6. All market animals weighed in and divided into 12 classes by the superintendent.
4 classes of light weight
4 classes of medium weight
4 classes of heavy weight
7. Horns– exhibitors will be required to have horns tipped on all goats prior to weigh-in. Animals not
following this rule will be disqualified.
8. Hair– market goats must be slick shorn too within 3/8 inch of hair or less at the time of show.
There will be no shearing allowed on show grounds. Only hand shearers and cordless clippers
may be used for touch ups
9. Weight– there will be a minimum weight of 40 pounds and a maximum weight of 115 pounds.
10. Restraints– exhibitors will be allowed to use halters or collars in the show ring
11. Showmanship– exhibitors will not lift front legs of goats off of ground during judging.
12. Sale order will be determined by the judge. The overall Champion and Reserve Champion will be
the first two market goats in the sale. After Champion and Reserve Champion are selected, the
remaining goats and reserve division champion goats will be selected in order by the judge for
sale order, with the remaining goats being selected to make the 33% sale order.
13. OFFICIAL WEIGH IN will follow fungus check.
14. Inspection for live ringworm/fungus by the show veterinarian will take place from 7-10 AM on the
Wednesday of the show week inside the cattle wash racks. Chapters and clubs should arrive
based upon the time schedule created by the goat superintendent or their designee. Each animal
will be examined by the show veterinarian to gain access in the barn. All blankets and muzzles
must be removed from animals prior to inspection. The sheep/goat superintendent, show
veterinarian, exhibitor, and chapter advisor or club representative are the only individuals
permitted inside the cattle wash racks at the time of inspection. Animals with live ringworm and/or
fungus (as deemed by the show veterinarian of the county show) will not be permitted to enter the
lamb/goat barn and will not be permitted to participate in the Youth Show.
15. Those who wish to dispute the original ruling of the show veterinarian have the option to pay the
protest fee, as described in the General Show rules. Any exhibitor wishing to pay a protest fee
must keep their animal inside the “protest pens” inside the cattle wash racks. Once an animal
leaves the inspection area, the exhibitor forgoes the option of putting up the protest fee and is
disqualified from participating in the Youth Show. (The animal must be removed from the show
grounds immediately.) Animals under protest review, must be blanketed while in the protest pens.
Protests must be made and fees must be paid within 30 minutes of disqualification of your animal.
At 10:30 AM, the show veterinarian will black light any protested animals and make the final
decision. If the animal is deemed clean, the protest fee will be returned and the animal permitted
to enter the barn. All animals that are disqualified to show due to ringworm/fungus (as deemed
by the show veterinarian) must be removed from the show grounds immediately following
disqualification.
16. Lambs/goats are not allowed to enter the lamb/goat barn until they have been cleared by the
show veterinarian.
17. Top 33% of Market Goats will qualify for the Ribbon Auction, excluding the Division and Reserve
Division Champions.
18. Showmanship will follow the selection of sale order.
Sheep Division
Superintendent: Tim Johnson
Assistant: Sharron Bigham, Leslie Thetford-Clack, and Shalley Boles
1. All sheep must be state validated
2. All Breeding Sheep must have registration papers, a copy of the papers needs to be with
exhibitor and will be checked at weigh in immediately following fungus check. All Breeding Sheep
have to be clean and show presentable at time of show.
3. Breeding Sheep - Suffolk, Hampshire, Dorset, Rambouillet, Southdown, and Commercial
4. Breeding Sheep- Breeding Sheep must have 10 breeding sheep entered to have a breeding
show, and at least 3 to make a breed.
5. Classes –
1. Ewe Lambs
2. Two Tooth Ewes
3. Aged Ewes
4. Champion Female
5. Res. Champion Female
6. Market Lambs: will be judged after the Breeding Sheep

Limited to 2 entries per exhibitor
7. Market Sheep will be divided into classes as determined by the Superintendent following the
weighing. Breeds of Market Lambs are: Finewool, Finewool Crosses, Medium Wool (8 classes),
and Southdown and Hair-Sheep. Market lambs must be slick shorn and of uniform length from
knee to hock up prior to arrival. Only touch ups can be made on the show grounds with any type
of clippers. Any lamb that shows up in full fleece will be disqualified from the show.
8. Market lambs will show in the breed where it appears to exhibit predominant breed
characteristics, as determined by the classifying committee. Two head makes a breed, with only
the Overall Grand Champion and Reserve Champion automatically making the sale. After
Champion and Reserve Champion are selected, the remaining breed and reserve breed
champion lambs will be selected in order by the judge for sale order, with the remaining animals
being selected to make the 33% sale order
9. Ewe lambs shown in the Market Class will not be permitted to show in the Breeding Sheep Show.
10. Market sheep will be weighed in and classified in the cattle wash rack area immediately following
admittance from the show vet, post fungus check. Sheep being shown in the medium wool class
do not need to be classified
11. Sale order will be determined by the judge. The overall Champion and Reserve Champion will be
the first two market goats in the sale. After Champion and Reserve Champion are selected, the
remaining goats and reserve division champion goats will be selected in order by the judge for
sale order, with the remaining goats being selected to make the 33% sale order.
12. OFFICIAL WEIGH IN will be immediately following fungus check. The minimum weight limits for
lambs are as follows: Hair Sheep and Southdowns: 80 Pounds, and all other breeds including
medium wool, fine wool, and crosses will have a minimum weight of 90 pounds.
13. Inspection for live ringworm/fungus by the show veterinarian will take place from 7-10 AM on the
Wednesday of the show week inside the cattle wash racks. Chapters and clubs should arrive
based upon the time schedule created by the sheep superintendent or their designee. Each
animal (market and breeding) will be examined by the show veterinarian to gain access in the

ringworm/fungus (as deemed by the show veterinarian) must be removed from the show grounds
immediately following disqualification.
15. Lambs/goats are not allowed to enter the lamb/goat barn until they have been cleared by the
show veterinarian.
16. The top 33% of Market Lambs are eligible for the Ribbon Auction, excluding the Breed and
Reserve Breed Champions.
17. Showmanship will follow the selection of the sale order.
Rabbit Division

1. Entries are subject to general rules. This is a carrier show
2. Breeding rabbits and Meat Pens arrive 11AM in the Main Barn
3. Judging: Meat pens – 12:30PM, weigh and judged, followed by breeding show.
4. Ownership / Possession: meat pens must be owned and in the possession of exhibitor four (4) weeks
prior to show date. Breeding must be owned and in the possession of exhibitor six (6) weeks prior to
show date.
5. Meat pens will consist of 3 rabbits—all same breed and variety. AGE LIMIT not over 10 weeks of age.
Minimum weight per rabbit is 3 pounds and the maximum weight is 5 pounds. If you have one or
more rabbits less than 3lbs or one or more over 5lbs it will result in being disqualified and your pen
will need to be returned to your carrier. It will not go to the show table.
6. Top 8 pens or 33%, whichever is greater, of meat pens that qualify for the show will sell in the
Premium Sale. Percentage will be rounded to the nearest whole number.
7. Rabbits are to be from a recognized breed from the Standard of Perfection, ARBA. Six of one breed
makes a category.
8. Rabbits must be tattooed with CCJLS specific tattoo and this number must be on the Entry
card. Rabbits without permanent tattoos will not be allowed to show.
9. Mating of rabbits is prohibited on show grounds. Anyone in violation of this rule will be removed from
the show and forfeit all awards for individual and/or chapter/club.
10. Breeding entries can be changed the morning of the show as long as they are the same class, same
sex, and same breed. All changes must be made before the show begins and with the show
superintendent or another ag teacher assisting with the show.

Poultry Division

All entries are subject to General Rules for the Collin County Junior Livestock Show. Each
exhibitor is required to bring feed and water containers, and feed and water for each pen entered.
Poultry arrive at 2:30pm in wash racks located in cattle barn judging begins at 3:30pm.
Broiler Division:
1. Exhibitor may enter as many as 2 pens per student from the original group of chicks.
2. Only one pen of broilers may be sold per exhibitor.
3. A broiler pen will consist of a uniform group of three birds from the original order. Pen may
include birds of either sex.
4. The top (8) pens or 33%., whichever is greater, of Broilers will be sold at the sale as
determined by the numbers of entries.
5. The exhibitor must be with his/her birds while judging is performed. (Exceptions must be
approved by the Superintendent).
6. A validation change of ownership form may be submitted by November 30th to change
eligible exhibitor (s).
7. Wing bands will be checked and must reflect number series as assigned by superintendent at
pick up. Pens that include birds with band numbers not in assigned series will be
disqualified.
8. Non-banded birds will be disqualified.
Breeding Division:

2. Each project entered must be the work of the individual or the Chapter members
3. If a project is not free standing a stand must be built to secure the project
4. There must be 4 entries in a class and present to be able to sell in the Ribbon Sale, except
for the Best of Show.
5. Exhibitors can only sell one project. Only 1st place in each class will be eligible for sale.
6. Blue, red, and white quality ribbons will be awarded to each project.
7. First place in each class will receive a plaque.
8. All 1st place class winners will compete for Best of Show, and all remaining 1st place winners
plus the 2nd place winner from the class that had the Best of Show winner will compete for
Reserve Best of Show.
9. Projects making sale must designate whether they are premium or not.
10. Tulsa State School will offer a cutting contest; this is only opened to those students that have
a project entered.
