1) All of our puppies go home with guarantee for hips/elbows, progressive retinal atrophy (PRA),
and heridatary cataracts (HC) until 24 months of age. The x-rays must be taken in accordance
with OFA, the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, Inc. This covers all grades of Hip Dysplasia,
with symptoms affecting said puppy that requires surgery and are established as genetically
inherited. A certified Canine Ophthalmologist certificate is required along with full medical
history from date of purchase to present for refund or replacement. For any of the above
conditions, a full refund not to exceed the purchase price will be given to the purchaser upon
receipt of the required documentation as stated above, or purchaser may choose a puppy of like
kind from the next available litter. We will not require return of the original puppy in the event
that a genetic defect is found up to 24 months of age, if purchaser covenants to give it the
appropriate care it requires for the lifetime of the dog, but do require it’s return if purchaser no
longer wants it.
2) Initial Purchase: buyer is required to have the dog examined by a licensed veterinarian within
four days of receipt of puppy. If the veterinarian feels that the pet puppy in question is unable
to fulfill the purpose for which it was purchased, the puppy must be returned for testing by
Waldfrieden Miniature American Shepherd’s veterinarian, with written documentation from the
buyer’s veterinarian, including lab testing, for full refund or replacement. We reserve the right
to have a 2nd opinion at our expense.
3) Buyer agrees to schedule the two remaining puppy vaccinations at approximately 12 and 16
weeks, and rabies vaccine by 5 months of age, and begin heartworm preventative as prescribed
by their veterinarian.
4) We will not pay for treatment of parasitic puppy conditions such as fleas, worms, or diarrhea
due to such conditions as overgrowth of giardia or coccidia, as they can be induced from the
stress of the transition. All puppies are sold in good health, with up to date vaccinations given
by a licensed veterinarian and health certificate issued by that veterinarian. Puppies are
wormed at 2,4,6,and 8 weeks of age. Breeder is not responsible if both testicles do not
descend. It is normal for 7-8 week old puppies to have one or both testicles not yet descended,
and there is no way to know if they will drop or not in time. Under no circumstances will
Waldfrieden pay any veterinary expenses incurred by the buyer.
5) Your puppy will be at the lowest level of immunity of its life at 8 weeks, even after receiving first
vaccinations by the breeder’s veterinarian. The second series of vaccinations must be done
within 4 weeks from the date of the first vaccinations, and the third series four weeks after that.
Your puppy is not immune to disease until the final set of vaccinations. Buyer agrees to avoid
dog parks, and other places contagions may be, when exercising or potty training their puppy
until then. It is recommended that you do not take your puppy anywhere until one week
following the final vaccines at 16 weeks. If you must travel without your puppy, you agree to
avoid boarding kennels, and keep your puppy home with a trusted friend or pet sitter.
6) Buyer agrees to provide the puppy with basic puppy kindergarten training, and enroll the puppy
in the first available class after the date of transfer from breeder. This is very important for all
puppies, and particularly this breed. Neglect to do this can permanently damage your Miniature
American Shepherd (Australian Shepherd)’s temperament for life.
7) This puppy is being sold WITHOUT breed rights. Spay/neuter is MANDATORY. Buyer agrees to
neuter or spay puppy not before 4 months of age, and no later than 6 months of age to prevent
accidental pregnancies. Waldfrieden works to improve the breed by purchasing the highest
quality breeding dogs worldwide, and through careful study of genetics, pedigrees, and DNA
testing for common disorders for the breed, and will not tolerate their dogs/lines being used for
indiscriminate breeding without permission. The fine for breeding dogs sold as pets, whether
accidental or intentional, will be no less than $5,000.
This clause does not apply to puppies sold to breeders. Dogs sold to breeders will cost
substantially more, and have full registration. Pet dogs will have limited registration.
8) Waldfrieden reserves the right to first pick of every litter, and the right to refuse the adoption of
any puppy, and cancel the transaction.
9) If for some reason, the puppy will need to be re-homed throughout it’s lifetime, buyer agrees to
notify Waldfrieden, and to work with us to place the puppy/dog in an approved home. Buyer

agrees not to turn puppy/dog over to a shelter under any circumstances. In that event, the
puppy/dog is to be returned to Waldfrieden. No monies will be refunded for this clause.
MDR1 is a mutant gene common to all herding breeds that does not affect the health of the dog.
However, MDR1 affected dogs (+/+) cannot receive certain drugs, such as Ivermectin or
Immodium, and many prescription drugs, without severe adverse consequences, even death.
MDR1 carriers (+/-) may also be sensitive to those drugs, and your veterinarian will have to
choose alternative options. The MDR1 status of the dam and sire are listed above. If one parent
or both is a carrier, it is recommended that the buyer have their puppy tested for the presence
of this gene. The test kit can be obtained from Washington State University, which is a simple
cheek swab test. Cost is $70. If the buyer opts not to have their dog tested, they agree to avoid
the drugs on the MDR1 list, and to provide a copy of the drug list to their veterinarian. If both
dam and sire are MDR1 -/-, the puppy will also be clear. It is recommended that buyers who
own horses choose only MDR1 clear puppies to avoid the risk of a fatal ingestion of horse
manure following an Ivermectin worming.
Breeder cannot guarantee the adult size, weight, and eye color of puppy. We give you our best
guess, but sometimes they surprise us.
Buyer agrees to provide adequate shelter for their puppy, and to include it in family life inside
their home, unless purchased strictly as a working farm dog.
Buyer agrees to provide puppy/dog with adequate exercise and mental stimulation as required
by this breed. This includes not leaving the puppy alone for long periods of time while the
family is away. If unavoidable, buyer agrees to find suitable puppy day care, or hire a pet
sitter/dog walker to visit the puppy/dog at home. Australian Shepherds/American Shepherds
cannot tolerate long periods of time apart from their family, boredom, or lack of exercise.
I, ____________________________________________________________, have read and
agree to all terms and conditions of contract. I understand this is a legally binding agreement
and all disputes will be handled in a Massachusetts court of law. In the event of any breach of
this contract, all guarantees are void.
