Welcome to the latest edition of my newsletter. The following information is what I have received whilst on foot patrol over the last month & from my latest drop in surgeries. STARCROSS On Monday 11th May at around 17.00 a resident of The Strand in Starcross had their door handle tried by 3 unknown males. Luckily their door was locked. The occupant shouted out to them but they continued to walk in the direction of the Spar/Charity Shop. One of the males was described as white, wearing sunglasses and had a bald head. The other two were very tall with dark hair. Although no crimes were committed, I would like to ask residents that they ensure their properties are kept secure. There are opportunists out there, let’s not give them an invite! Overnight on Friday 15th May several sheds on the allotments were broken into and high value items stolen. Did you see or hear anything? If so please call 101 quoting reference number CR/033817/15. I have provided some of the allotment holders shed alarms. If you hear a high alarm noise coming from the area at night please call 999. Overnight on Tuesday 12th May a vehicle parked in Longfield Starcross sustained damage. Scratches were found going across the near side of the vehicle. This has been estimated at several hundred pounds to rectify. Did anyone see or hear anything? If so please call 101 quoting reference number CR/033069/15 I have recently been informed that local horse riders have been experiencing problems with loose dogs. Owners are walking their dogs without leads and the dogs are approaching the horses and spooking them, sometimes whilst a rider is still on the horse. We all know, if a rider is thrown from a horse, catastrophic injuries could occur. Could all dog owners keep their dogs on a lead when around livestock/horses? Overnight on Friday 5th June Easter Hill Nursery situated on Mamhead Road was entered and several items stolen including petty cash. If anyone has any information regarding this please call 101 quoting crime number CR/039982/15 COCKWOOD During the month of May it was reported to me about a local couple who were in their vehicle travelling over Cockwood Bridge towards Dawlish Warren. There was one car in front of them and in front of that car were approximately 12 cyclists. They were two or three abreast often freewheeling, not peddling all the time and certainly not “pushing on”. Every time there was a gap big enough for the car in front to overtake, they would spread out across the road so it was impossible to go past them. They eventually ended up with 6 cars following them. About an hour later the local couple were having supper in The Ship Inn, Cockwood, when a group of cyclists came in – they were the same ones they had followed earlier, laughing and boasting about all the cars they had held up on their cycle ride and weren’t they clever to do so and what idiots car drivers were. “There is nothing they can do to us” was also a phrase used. As locals can appreciate its cyclists like that give other cyclists a bad name. If I see this kind of practice happening whilst I am on patrols, strong words of advice will certainly be administered! On Tuesday 9th June between 12:00 – 18:00 a boat owner tied up a grey Dinghy on the wall just the other side of the railway bridge in Cockwood. When they returned to go back to their boat they found the dinghy missing. If anyone has any information regarding this, please call 101 quoting crime number GENERAL NEWS We would like business owners to be aware; this is the time of year when distraction type thefts from shops are on the up. There have been distraction type thefts occurring in Teignmouth & Dawlish recently by way of the sales person being engaged on conversation with customers & leave the floor or till point. An offender can take advantage of this situation by taking goods or cash from the unmanned till.
