Located on the ridges of Bull Hill and Heifer Hill, the 34 megawatt (MW) project generates enough energy to power approximately 17,500 homes. Combined with other operating wind farms, Bull Hill brings First Wind's total capacity in Maine to 219 MW, enough to supply clean power to more than 80,000 homes. BULL HILL WIND PROFILE: Comprised of (19) 1.8 megawatt (MW) Vestas turbines. Providing Eastbrook and surrounding rural communities in Hancock County with significant tax revenue and community benefit funds to sustain economic development Produces cost-effective clean energy which will save ratepayers about $57 million over fifteen years CLEAN ENERGY AND SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT FOR MAINE The benefits of a wind farm go much deeper than just producing clean, renewable energy for local communities. Along with creating hundreds of jobs and providing millions of dollars in tax revenue, wind farms also support local businesses and the community as a whole. As part of Bull Hill’s community support, First Wind made a contribution towards the protection of watersheds in Hancock County as well as providing a public safety communication tower to enhance communications for local safety and rescue departments. ECONOMIC BENEFITS Annual tax payments of $100,000 to Hancock County and Eastbrook over 20 years, and an additional $240,000 in annual community benefits funds Approximately 200 jobs were created/supported during design, engineering and construction; First Wind continues to work with 300+ Maine businesses to develop and operate wind projects in Maine First Wind’s 15-year fixed-price contract for the output of the project will provide significant cost savings for rate-payers ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS Unlike conventional power sources, wind power produces electricity without harmful emissions or watershed pollution Power produced by Bull Hill Wind avoids more than 45,000 tons of CO2e per year 180,000 barrels of oil per year would be required to produce the same amount of power as the Bull Hill Wind facility OTHER FIRST WIND PROJECTS IN MAINE ABOUT FIRST WIND First Wind is an independent renewable energy company exclusively focused on the development, financing, construction, ownership and operation of utility-scale renewable energy projects in the U.S. Based in Boston, First Wind has wind projects in the Northeast, the West and Hawaii, with combined capacity of 980 megawatts (MW) – enough to power approximately 300,000 homes each year.
