Objectives
Provide a discussion of the extraction processes and preparation of metals, taking into account the
availability of natural resources, the environmental impact of the processes of the degradability of the
materials under the operating conditions based on the correlation between resources, materials and
environment.
Program
Extraction of the elements; main compounds of inorganic chemistry; polymer structures and physical
properties, mechanical properties of polymers; electrochemical for the environment and energy;
fundamentals of corrosion and protection of materials.
Abilities:
Focus on the importance of the integration of the contents of the preparatory courses of fundamentals
chemistry with those necessary for the development, processing and application of the main materials
of technological interest.
Organization
The course is based on theoretical lectures and laboratory experiments.
Examination
Written examination, oral examination at the request of the student. The written test includes an
exercise concerning electrochemical cells (batteries or electrolysis cells) and theoretical questions on
the processes of extraction of metals, polymeric materials and corrosion and protection of materials.
Prerequisites
Some knowledge on fundamentals of chemistry.
