Mission
The English Honor Society recognizes students who have displayed outstanding
academic achievement as well as demonstrated the qualities of diligence,
initiative, and commitment to helping others. Our purpose is to create enthusiasm
about the English language; promote excellence in English studies; advance the
student’s understanding and knowledge of the English language; and encourage
participation in events and activities dedicated to the pursuit of expanding
knowledge.
Committees
As part of your membership and to continue our mutual commitment to be one of the most active EHS
chapters, we ask that you actively participate in at least one EHS committee each school year. You are most
welcome and encouraged to join more than one committee or work on several projects. Sign up for
committees is conducted at our first general meeting.
Fundraising - Our main fundraising effort is the annual week-long Pizza Sale in late fall. The
committee plans all aspects of the event, including scheduling EHS volunteers to sell pizza each day,
working with English staff to order and pick up pizza and account for all monies collected. The
committee meets as needed on a project-by-project basis and also brainstorms about new ways to
raise funds for EHS. Contact: Marzia Mostafa
Historian – This committee, which began in spring 2012, is responsible for tracking and archiving
all photography, important letters, and other notes of importance from the national chapter and other
organizations with whom EHS has contact. The committee will meet monthly to keep track and
archive all relevant materials. Anyone with artistic ability and/or an interest in creative scrapbooking
is highly encouraged to join this fun committee. Contact: Brett Sachs
Philanthropy – This committee is responsible for local and/or national charitable outreach activities
to promote reading and writing to a variety of young students. We periodically conduct a WCHS
Student Book Drive that benefits a local or international organization in need. Another focus is our
Annual New Book Drive to benefit The Children’s Inn at NIH. This committee meets in late fall,
selects age-appropriate books for purchase, assists English staff in purchasing books, wraps and
boxes books, and organizes delivery. A small group from this committee successfully obtained a
grant in spring 2012, one which we would like to continue on an annual basis.

Public Relations - This committee is responsible for promoting all EHS activities and projects
throughout the year. This includes working with the Daily Dose staff to promote our activities. They
also periodically create posters for use throughout the building. Contact: Marzia Mostafa
Tutoring - This committee comprises a core group of 10 EHS members that coordinates the tutoring
program for the lunchtime English Writing Lab, which is open almost every day in Room 230.
Throughout the school year the committee tracks EHS tutors and ensures that members tutor at least
one time per semester and reports earned service points in a timely manner to the Secretary. The
committee, working closely with the President, will also send regular e-mail reminders to students
about their scheduled tutoring sessions, monitor tutoring logs, and meet monthly with the EHS
President for planning and updates. Contact: Colin Kincaid
