Workplace and Apprenticeship 10 Course Outline
Welcome! To complete this course we will use many resources including Mathworks 10
Textbook and different hands on utensils that you will need like a scientific calculator, geometry set,
ruler and other tools that we will use. At times, this is a very hands on course and will require you to
build, move, measure and other processes, all while thinking about the math involved. It can be a lot of
fun, but there are still tasks that will need to be completed to show your learning. Our topics are:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
6.
7.
Unit Pricing and Currency Exchange
Earning an Income
Length, Area and Volume
Mass, Volume and Temperature
Angles and Parallel Lines
Similarity of Figures
Trigonometry of Right Angles
Evaluation
In this course, you will write only 4 exams. There will be a final exam worth 25% of your mark, while
each of the other three exams will be worth 5% of your mark. An exam will be written after topic 2,
after topic 4 and after topic 6. Each of these smaller exams will have information from two units, but
will still be smaller exams. All of your assignments and tasks done during the course will make your unit
work and the other 60% of your course mark. So, each topic will be worth 10% because topics 3 and 4
will be taught as one topic, leaving 6 topics.

All assignments should be completed to a mastery expectation, meaning that either it is done right and
you get full marks, or it will need to be improved to receive a mark. There will be feedback provided if
you need to improve the assignment so that you can get full marks. Please note that there is an
expectation that you will have all unit assignments handed in, and either full marks or a plan in place to
get full marks, before you will complete the unit exam. Once your receive a mark of incomplete, you
will be required to spend your lunch hours and any other extra time with me, or in a homework hall, as
needed to complete your work and get the incomplete mark changed over to a number mark. There
will be no rewrite or improvement of an exam allowed if there are outstanding assignments! We will
also notify home, while keeping school administration notified as well. On the other hand, if you do
your best work and get things in on time, we will not even have to worry about this!
After each exam, you will make a comment based on your learning. To make the comment, we will
focus on these questions:
1. What did I learn?
2. What did I do well?
3. What do I need to improve on?
Once you have made your comment, we will communicate with home while keeping a copy at the
school. These would be the comments we would use for your progress reports as well.
The final exam can be completed as a traditional final exam at the end of the course for the full 25%.
The other option for you will be to create 3 short videos on how to teach certain concepts in this course.
In the video you must discuss the concept and teach how to do it in a very clear manner. Each video you
create is worth a possible 5 marks that can be subbed into your exam section of your mark. It could be
used to replace the mark you got on a small exam, or to reduce the amount your final is worth. The
maximum number of videos that you can complete is 3 and your topic must be approved by me in
discussion. During this discussion we will determine the criteria for assessment. Please note that the
expectation is that the video must be assessed at full marks to be considered complete. These videos
can be completed anytime during the course.
