MEMO
To: Dr. Charles Connell, Chair, History Department
From: Dr. Kathryn Hildebrand, Assistant Vice Provost
Date: 10/27/2011
I write in my capacity as the Northern Arizona University NCATE coordinator. This review is in regards to compliance with NCATE accreditation and Arizona Department of
Education approval to issue an institutional recommendation. This memo addresses accreditation and state review issues only, and should not be construed as an endorsement of any proposed changes.
Regarding: NCATE accreditation implications of the Social Studies BSEd program change proposal.
Accreditation Verification: The proposed Social Studies BSEd program changes meet the Professional Education Unit criteria for documenting candidate performance of institutional, state, and national level standards and criteria required for NAU’s NCATE accreditation status.
Rationale: The program assessment plan includes assessments and rubrics that have been mapped to both Interstate Teacher Assessment and Support Consortium (InTASC)
Standards and the relative SPA standards. Additionally, assessments and rubrics are included that measure the Professional Education Unit’s standards of diversity, technology, professional knowledge, and dispositions.
